Thanks Albert, I did one spot calculation with ABC at mid-travel and the result was exact so I was just settling down to do the full calculation.

Hello Jon,

Difficult to read in the picture, but for probe calibration remember that the input capacitance changed at some S/N from 20 pF to 22 pF.
I also have several 7A26s as general purpose plugins. Saves time and wear when going from one scoop to another.

Re: Your generosity is STUNNING!

Hi Dennis,
I haven't been able to make my contribution without paying a transfer fee going to Paypal. I tried but couldn't because of my funds coming from outside the USA (where you as the beneficiary live), although ISTR having been able to make transfers to USA beneficiaries (as a friend or family) before, without paying a fee.
I think I'll lose the Paypal fee on refunding.

BTW, I can't find my transaction dated January 1, #2AA90158M6841150H @ USD 22,57.

So, please if you can, find my transfer and do something good with the money.
That would exclude refunding.
As far as I'm concerned, it would include having a bite with your wife, who probably suffers enough from all the time you spend moderating TekScopes

Hi David. I noticed a fan motor listed on eBay. I have had much success repairing these motors. I take them apart so I can clean and re lubricate the bushings. This usually works although not always. I have gotten rid of most of those although I think I have one or two still around. If you get really stuck let me know and I will take a look. John

That does rely on having a good approximation to a square law for the taper

the pot. As you pointed out the resistance increases ccw and I can't see
immediately why the maths works for the combination of fixed resistor in
parallel with the three terminal connected pot. It might be a rather clever
piece of algebra or an approximation that is good enough for the intended

Hello all:

After the 7A26 transient fix, I realized how useful these 7A26 are, so I searched my storage....2 more + 3 junkers!

2 tested 9 years ago, marked with faults, but after exercising controls,

#1 super, the best transient response.
#2 flaky BNC must fix but useable, has acceptable transient.
Both need attenuator cleaning and calibration.

THe 3 junkers are missing knobs, bad fault. I am in 7A26 nirvana.
Hours of fun to do the rework and calibrations on these marvelous plugins, at least I know the drill.

The pots will go to maximum R in ccw position and zero in cw position. If all in ccw position then both branches are equal 7.5 k. All three pots A, B, and C in cw position (zero resistance) is not realistic since all 4 scales are identical. F would require a scale up to sqrt(3) times larger maximum then.

Hello,I'm currently attempting to repair a tektronix 555.  Is there a place I would be able to source a replacement fan motor for the power supply unit, and a replacement 555 21A/22A vernier/level knob?I'm in Australia if that is of any assistance. Thanks,David

Wrapping up the TekScopes pledge drive, Michael Dunn and I are STUNNED by
your generosity and all the positive comments we received. Your

sent us 203 contributions totaling $3,341.77!

We agree this is a problem that I will have to fix since it was my bright
idea. I did not realize when I sent my request for help that people would be
so generous. I wrote, "So I am asking for small contributions". What
happened was anything but "small".

Leo Bodnar, a friend, stunned me when he contributed the entire required
amount two days later. This was the first sign I should have chosen a
synonym such as "tiny" or "teeny" instead of small. It was too late at that
point. I could see there was a tsunami headed my way and I had no way to
stop it. I think the contributions have finally stopped. The last one (I
hope) arrived three days ago.

Michael and I have decided that this is far too much money for us to keep on
behalf of TekScopes. The simplest solution is for us to tear up the checks
and return all the PayPal contributions above $10.00 (actually all those
above $10.05) over the next few days, with our sincerest thanks. This will
result in exactly half of the contributions being kept and half being
returned. PayPal allows me to do a total refund very quickly; we considered
partial refunds, but the process would take much longer. If, after you
receive your refund, you would still like to make a contribution to
TekScopes, please don't send more than $10.00. If you do, we'll be forced to
spend it on wine and DMMs.

Thank You,
Dennis Tillman W7PF

As I promised, here is every contribution I received. The four checking
account contributions are listed in numerical order by their bank account
number. Following those, the 199 PayPal contributions are listed in
numerical order by their transaction number. I double and triple checked the
PayPal notices that came to me or to my wife, Marian, to be sure I didn't
miss any. If I missed your PayPal contribution please let me know so I can
find out what happened to it. The most common contribution was $10.00 and
the average contribution was $15.94.

Re: Using U-ship for shipping scopes?

Greg Gore

I've used U-Ship and can say it's probably your best option for shipping something large which needs white glove service. You sign up to become a member and post a picture and brief details about your shipment with pick-up date and location and destination and you will usually get multiple quotes and offers from among the many truckers and independent shippers who are also U-Ship members. You can review the member's feedback and take a look at their operation through the pictures and description they have posted about themselves. In addition you will be in contact with your driver once you accept his quote so you can discuss how the item will be secured and protected. After delivery you will be invited to leave feedback on how it all went for you.

I was wondering if anyone has had any experience using uship.com for
shipping scopes or other electronics. If you're unfamiliar with them, they
are like an Uber, but for shipping, including long distances.

I heard about it watching a shango66's Youtube channel. In one episode
someone had purchased an old tube television from him and had uship pick
it up.

The guy came up in a minivan and put the TV inside, put a heavy blanket
around it and treated it decently, and off it went. He mentioned he was
taking the TV quite a distance - I think it was from California to Ohio if
I recall.

I haven't tried using them yet, but I am curious if anyone else has. It
seems like it might be a viable alternative to the other shipping giants
and the equipment may be treated better, being packed in a van by one
person rather than constantly tossed around.

I took an assembly language class once where we had to build a working traffic light simulator for a normal intersection using a very simple assembler.  One of the primary objectives was understanding the cycle counts of commands and how they related to the micro's timing.  We discovered that published data is not always correct...
There is one more modern way of doing that now.

The XMOS xCORE MCUs are designed for *hard* realtime jobs, and you can buy up to 4000MIPS 32 core devices from DigiKey for the same price I paid for a 6800 in 1976. Key points: no cache, no interrupts, FPGA-like i/o structures such as SERDES, do i/o on a specified clock cycle in the future etc.

The IDE examines the binary code and determines the exact cycle count between this point and that point.

Example: use /software/ in one core to count the transitions in a 62.5Mb/s datastream (guaranteed not to miss any), another to drive the front panel, another to communicate over USB to a PC,

The hardware and software are beautifully designed to work together; I found it delightfully easy to get things working - with zero surprises.

For greybeards, the hardware is like Transputers, and the xC software is like Occam/CSP.

Dennis I didn't see my contribution either.  It is transaction #9wc977493y900193w dated Jan. 2, 2020.  Keep up the good work!  Thank you. Greg

Subject: [TekScopes] Your generosity is STUNNING!

Wrapping up the TekScopes pledge drive, Michael Dunn and I are STUNNED by
your generosity and all the positive comments we received. Your
contributions have exceeded the $340 paid to Groups.io by almost 1,000%. You
sent us 203 contributions totaling $3,341.77!

Michael Dunn VA1XY

As I promised, here is every contribution I received. The four checking
account contributions are listed in numerical order by their bank account
number. Following those, the 199 PayPal contributions are listed in
numerical order by their transaction number. I double and triple checked the
PayPal notices that came to me or to my wife, Marian, to be sure I didn't
miss any. If I missed your PayPal contribution please let me know so I can
find out what happened to it. The most common contribution was $10.00 and
the average contribution was $15.94.

for a fascinating look at the totok app, take a look at this forensics post:

https://objective-see.com/blog/blog_0x52.html

as i noted, the issue isn’t what the app hovers from your phone (because all social media apps do much the same, as do weather and other seemingly innocuous apps) it is who gets a copy of your data. tik tok? the chinese. totok? probably the UAE. facebook? the feds.
