the 7904 board will fit and work in the 7504 or if not, are the

I think the part numbers are correct; I have the 7504 manual but
not
the 7904 so I'd appreciate verification.
Thanks, Don Black.
No the ifc board will not fit. What exactly do you mean by broken
sockets. A common fault on the connectors was that the plastic
covers, 2 on each connector, cracked at the edges and came loose
allowing the golden contacts to come out of the connector. If this is
your problem you can use the covers from the 7904 connectors if they
are OK. They just snaps on.

Does anyone have an idea whether their is much similarity between

a -

Here are the major specs of the different versions of 067-0587-xx.

-00:
Tr: 750 ps
B/W: 200 MHz
Step Accu: 0.25%
Rep rate: 25 - 250k

-01:
Tr: 300 ps
B/W: 500 MHz
Step Accu: 0.3 %
Rep rate: 100 - 1 MHz

-02/10:
Tr: 150 ps
B/W: 1 GHz
Step Accu: 0.3% / 6 divs, 0.5% / 8 divs
Rep rate: 10 - 1 MHz

-01 and -02/10 have an internal leveling circuit for B/W check so the
signal generator doesn't have to leveled, within certain limits off
course. The -00 doesn't have that, just a flat response to 200 MHz. -
10 is a modified -02 with an internal switch controling the PRE TRIG
OUT so you can choose between one trigger for each staircase step or
one trigger for each frame of starcase.

Hi,
I have used the 2230 with a HP 7470A plotter. this comes in two
versions. I used the HPIB version.

Set the HPIB address of the plotter to 31 *BEFORE* turning it on.

The scope is configured through the on screen menus.

Check the on screen menus for other printers.

Good luck.

John

Re: TEK2230 with GPIB & RS232 port card, need software or X-Y plot

John Miles <jmiles@...>

I don't know about software for RS232, but for GPIB, you want to go to eBay
and buy a National Instruments GPIB card (e.g.,
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3310516697,
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3310699434,
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3310537666, too many
others to list here) and cable
(e.g.,http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2507021220&category
=25420).

All of the drivers and software for any NI GPIB hardware can be downloaded
from their site at http://www.ni.com. Don't even think about using any
other vendor for GPIB hardware.

Hook up all the hardware, verify that the NI Explorer (or similar app) can
communicate with your scope, and then go to my site at
http://www.qsl.net/ke5fx and download the "Open-Source GPIB Library for
Win32." Try these commands from a DOS prompt:

2430grab (your scope's address) > c:\test.plt
7470 c:\test.plt

The above will let you capture and print screenshots from a Tek 2430 or
2430A, but I've never tried it on a 2230. Let me know what happens -- if it
doesn't work, then we can send out an appeal to anyone who has a 2230 GPIB
reference to tell us what the equivalent commands are to capture the screen.
(The command is "print" on the 2430, but it might be "plot" or something
else on the 2230.)

If it doesn't work at first, make sure the scope is set to HP 7470A plotter
mode. On the 2430A, the line in 2430grab.cpp that sends "device type:hpgl"
takes care of this, but there's no guarantee that the 2230 will understand
that.

Hi,
. . Just thought I'd make a general post, that manauls for these (and
many others ) tek plus are listed at

http://www.falls.igs.net/~testequipment/t.html

Perhaps its bad form to mention, but if anyone DOES have an L series
spectrum (or 3S series sampling??) gathering dust..

Moving swiftly on, I believe the L20 and L30 plugins came out in '66 ?
can anyone tell me a little about them (Nuvistors ? Hybrid ? Dual

Hi Alan
You will have GPIB or RS232 - not both.
You can use any National Instruments GPIB card (that is
compatible with your
PC) and Tek has some free software on it's website you can download to get
screen dumps.
Really? Any URLs for this? I haven't seen any freely-available GPIB
software on the Tek site for the older gear.

You cannot control this scope as it's all manual controls (hand operated)
but you can upload or download waveforms.

Free Tektronix CRT

kevin_ka0i <kj558@yahoo.com>

I have a CRT that I removed from a piece of Tektronix medical
equipment. It may be useful to someone. The piece of equipment
was working when I dismantled it. This CRT had a clear, bright
trace. The number on top of the CRT appears to be 521 F 64. This
has been in my way for a couple of years. If no takers on here in
the next few days, it will go in the trash. You pay only
shipping. Please email if you want pictures, dimensions, etc.

I would like to have a copy of operator's manual or service manual
for my 453A-4. It does not have to be in paper form, .pdf file on
CD is ok too. I will gladly compensate for expenses. I realize I
can purchase one on CD via ebay. That is plan "B". Thanks.

Nelson-Ross PSA011 Spectrum Analyzer Plugin for 53x/54x/55x Series

Jim Reese

Hello Group Members,

I have a Nelson-Ross model PSA011 audio spectrum analyzer plugin
available. The center frequency range is from 0-20 KHz and
dispersion is from 100Hz to 6 KHz. It is in excellent condition and
worked the last time it was checked several years ago. It fits the
53x/54x/55x series Tek scope mainframes. I have only seen the one of
this model and it was never listed in any old Tucker catalogs with
the other Nelson-Ross units. Before I put it on Ebay, I figure I will
offer it to group members as-is for $25 plus shipping to the first
one that wants it.

Let me know if you need any letter, 1, 2, or 3 series plugins. I am
going to start clearing out my over-stocked collection cheap ($10-$25
each as-is but complete).

Jim

TDS-210 firmware upgrade?

Jose V. Gavila <eb5agv@...>

Hello!

I have a TDS-210 with an old (I think it is v1.1x) firmware. I have access
to another unit with v2.03. Is there a way to copy it?. Is it located in an
EPROM?

Thanks!

Type 111 capacitor replacement

Craig Sawyers <c.sawyers@...>

Hi all

I've uploaded a couple of pics to the pictures section of the Tekscopes site
showing the replacement of the 40+40uF @ 450V smoothing cap in the Type 111
pretrigger pulse generator. The original was a Sprague unit, with a nylon
insulating sheath. At least one lister contacted me reporting a similar
failure with a Sprague cap in his oscilloscope, so perhaps this isn't
unusual with these Spragues.

The replacement is a JJ cap (Slovakian) that I got from a local supplier in
the UK (although they seem to be available in the US and elsewhere too, just
trawling google). JJ are a part of Tesla, who manufacture audio tubes.

I used a 50+50uF @ 500V cap, and is exactly the same diameter as the Sprague
unit, but a trifle shorter.

What I did was remove the old cap from the mounting plate by twisting the
locating tabs and pulling it off. I then trimmed the plastic sheath off the
new cap at the bottom revealing the metal can, and give the adhesive
something to grip to. Superglue was then used to glue the new cap to the
base.

As you can see, it almost looks as if it is original (which was part of the
exercise!).

JJ's site is at http://www.jj-electronic.sk/.

Tektronix 577 Curve Tracer Questions

drd_007

Hello,

I just purchased a Tektronix 577D2 Curve Tracer. It came with a user's manual and only the FET test fixture but no protective cover. (In order to sweep higher voltage ranges, I must manually override the safety switch) Here are several questions for the group:

1. Does anyone have some duplicate test fixtures they would care to sell or perhaps know of a source for these fixtures? I would also like to replace a couple of the labelled knobs.

2. Is there anyone out there who has made their own fixtures who could share information with me?

3. Does anyone know of a textbook containing in-depth explanations for the testing of various devices using this instrument? I did a search on Google and Amazon with no luck.

The TDS200 series with version 2.xx use a completely different
hardware than the older ones. On the older ones you'd have to replace
a ROM chip to upgrade and the newer ones use a FlashROM, updated by a
special fixture.

Re: TDS-210 firmware upgrade?

pe1fbo <sh331182@12move.nl> <sh331182@...>

Hi Jose,

The firmware is probably located in an EPROM or Flash EPROM.
If your lucky you will spot a big chip, 28 or 32 pins with something
like 27C010 27C020 or an 27F010 27F020. If your less luck they have
used a PLCC (plasic lead chip carrier) soldered on the board with the
same type numbers. The bad thing is that Tek never provided diagrams
of the newer stuff, and not servicing them either after a few years
they went out of production.
