WSTR0DEM just changed its extension from .zip to .exe (AFAI see). To get it, you just have to log-in to ftp://ftp.tek.com/mbd/support/ , and then download WSTRODEM.EXE. Or just click (or cut and paste) this link ( ftp://ftp.tek.com/mbd/support/wstrodem.exe ) into your browser, and there you go !!! Tell me if I can help you on this. Regards Gaston

wavestar followup, or "can this possibly get worse?", + CRT
Many thanks to those who posted links to possible reservoirs of the
wavestar early versions that might work with my 2221A. amazingly, in every case, the files are now gone, as they linked back to the Tek FTP server, and the old versions have been deleted there. sigh. I remain hopeful, but I confess I am (tek) blue over this whole issue. ON a marginally more positive note, does anybody need a 564B CRT? I am breaking up an old unit, tube and filament looks Ok, but no use to me, if somebody will pay the postage to ship it. I also have posted a bunch of cleaned older Tek knobs up to our site for those refurbing older 500 series units. More going up later today that are in the later "dark gray" style. http://www.sphere.bc.ca/test/tek-parts/tek-knobs2.html Suzie is going to Portland next week to pick up a case of Tek blue paint in spray cans, we just couldn't figure out how else to ship it. we will have a lot of it, if anybody wants to drive up here to BC to get it! all for now, walter http://www.sphere.bc.ca

Re: P6106A vs P6053B
Craig Sawyers <c.sawyers@...>
Could someone please tell me the main spec differences between theAccording to my '88 Tek catalogue, the "recommended" probe for the 475 is the P6106A, but the P6053B is a "useable combination" with the 475. Detailed specs depend on cable length, but picking a 6' for comparison we see: P6053B ====== 10M, 12.5pF. 200MHz at -3dB, 500V DC max. 15-24pF 'scope loading. P6106A ====== 10M, 11.2pF. 250MHz at -3dB, 500V DC max. 15-35pF 'scope loading. So all in all, very similar. In 1988, the P6053B cost $150 and the P6106A cost $140. So not a lot to choose between the two, really. Craig

with a fast enough scope (with input of 1MOhm and 15-35pf), while the 6053 is good to 200Mhz with a fast enough scope (with input of 1MOhm and 15-24pf). The input capacitance range is similar enough though, that you 6053 should work just fine with your 475 under most conditions. It just won't deliver proper response past 200Mhz. .... Could someone please tell me the main spec differences between the
TekTronix P6106A and P6053B probes? I acquired a 6053B, but can't find the specs anywhere. Want to use with a 475 scope. From what little I have found, the 6106A appears to go a little higher in frequency than the 6053B. Dick

John Bloom
Hi,
Could use a little help with this one, The problem is that the display takes a long time to appear then slowly expands and contracts with some stable periods in both positions, this coincides with the HV test (R1274) voltage varying. the low voltage supplies are stable, so I suspect the thickfilm net work (307-0359-00), but cannot find one to try, has anyone tried discrete resistors to replace this?, or have any ideas on the fault?. Has anyone got this part for sale? Thanks, John.

Like the other note here, I sympathize with you. Have you looked at the site: http://www.elbol.com/hamtafiler.htm ? The site is in German, and it looks to me like the software is demo software, but they mention WSTR31 and WSTRO. Might be worth a try. .... John Hurst _______________

This is great, the current verison of wavestar DOES NOT support myOh boy. I can't help you with the software, Walter - but you have my sympathies. I would bet that Tek's attitude would have been different if you were dealing with them in the '60s (but you wouldn't have had a software problem back then ;-) ). Good luck in ferreting out the software. Craig

Fantastically frustrated with Tek, really need help
After a complete day wasted getting the wrong info from Tek,
and eventually no help whatsoever, I could use some assistance from the group. I have a working and lovely Tek 2221A digital/analog 100Mhz scope I just got, and want to use the serial port to download data, a function they intended, and which is described in depth in the manual. the original PC software the manual describes, something mysterious called S41SAVE is now lost in history, and was replaced by the all-singing-all-dancing Wavestar. After contacting Tek, I was told to buy this program, assured it would work with my scope. However, I read all the notes and pdf's on line, since there was no demo to test, and found, in fact, NO, it would not work, and I re- contacted my rep with this data, who then suddenly (and authoritatively) advised, no of course it would not work, my scope is out of support. Quite a course correction in just a few hours. This is great, the current verison of wavestar DOES NOT support my scope, only older versions do (which they will NOT sell me), with names like WSTR31 and WSTRO, etc. The all new software only works with new scopes (support was dropped deliberately for older models, another hose the customer sales thing), and my Tek rep advised me to ditch this 12 year old out-of-support (and presumably worthless) item, and buy a new T series digital scope. I almost threw my keyboard across the room.... Wow, what a wonderful series of answers. Does anybody have the "obsolete" and worthless unsupported software so I can get some work done? Happy to pay, just want something that works. Still fuming, walter http://www.sphere.bc.ca

Tek 453
Collin
Hello friends,
I have had some difficulty with the 453. The channel 1 position all of a sudden went way off the display. I could not get it back on the display. Tapping the mode switch seemed to affect the position greatly. After much tapping and adjusting of the position control the trace was back where it should be. I feel that a vibration of the mode switch will send the trace off again. Any ideas? I looked at the mode switch very carefully and all looks fine. This is a very clean 453. No dust and the switch looks very clean. The contact for channel 1 looked like it was making good connection when switched. Thank you. Collin

Hi ppl i'm new to the group and was wondering if someone could give me an
idea on my tek 475 scope.I just bought it and channel 2 is great, but channel 1 when you first turn it on keeps going upward, turning the position control will bring it down for a minute but it keeps on climbing.Eventually it goes right off the screen.Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Bill

Re: Digest Number 446-New to me 535A Questions
Bryce Ringwood <bringwoo@...>
Hi all,
Looks like my 'D' type plug in is busted too :( Or I need to RTFM. Will look at the connections suggested by David Wise first. Then go through it logically until the fault is traced. (He said confidently). The manual for the thing is rather interesting as it has a price list and catalogue for all the Tek stuff made at the time appended to it. Tubes were all $75 to $100. Oh, and my scope is the 535 'A' version also. Looking at these manuals, David is quite right. There are tons of minor modifications that relate to specific serial numbers. - Bryce 535A,547,549s,575/175 D,1A1,1A4,CA,M,Q(!) and TU2 Q untested, D Busted. Mostly use the 549

Re: Digest Number 446-New to me 535A Questions
Dave Wise
"2. there's a trace-I get about a 5mm wide vertical band fromThe Type D is fairly low frequency. Its bandwidth depends on the gain, and tops out around (memory fails me here) 1MHz. The upper left knob is a X1/X10/X100/X1000 attenuator, and the right-center knob is gain (X2/X5/X10/X20/X50/X100). The lower left knob or knobs are DC balance, and the adjustment is picky. The D contains a rubber-isolated subchassis, and the flexible wires that connect it to the main chassis are very prone to breakage. If (no, when!) they break, there's no telling what the preamp's output will do. The connection to the main vertical amp is differential, 100mV/div, on top of a common-mode voltage of 65-70V. Check the common-mode voltage with a VTVM, then short the diff inputs together. If this gives you a flat trace it's the preamp, otherwise look to the main amp. Check the power supplies (esp for ripple etc.) Voltages should all beIf the filter caps are weak, the electronic regulators will drop out on the negative peaks causing all kinds of perturbations, including interactions between vertical and horizontal. "3. I bought a 535/545 manual only to realize it's not the right oneThe two instruments are very similar, and either manual is fine as a general architecture reference, but there are detail differences scattered throughout, and you'll come to grief if you attempt to debug or calibrate with the wrong manual. In fact, look for a manual at or above your instrument's serial number. Tek made continuous design changes, some drastic, throughout production. Part for P6046 calibration
Miroslav Pokorni
Hello All,
I am looking to buy a 'P6046 Calibration Shield', P/N 067-0563-00, or a spare top cover of the probe, P/N 204-0303-09. The probe manual, Fig. 2 (probe mechanical assembly), has it wrong; drawing shows probe upside down and guy who wrote Parts List looked at probe right side up. Anyways, the part that I am looking for has 4 holes covered with plastic plugs. Please, let me know what is price, or if someone does not want to part with Calibration Shield, a loan is acceptable, too. A spare top cover is not recoverable for my purposes, I intend to drill additional six holes to make it into Calibration Shield. Regards Miroslav Pokorni
