Re: 577 U722 thermal insulator?
Thanks, I am trying to find any possible situation which would explain the no functioning step generator, something obvious that might be overlooked such as a missing thermal pad or a wire not making

Ahh, it's all good. The article you mentioned is a rather good read. Interesting that it manages to outperform the newer ones.
BTW, anyone can feel free to contact me off list if you happen to have

Re: 577 U722 thermal insulator?
DW,
As I read the manual U722 does not require an insulator. Mine had thermal conductive grease on it.
Reference: 577-D1/D2 Service Manual 070-1414-00 - Sec. 8 Pg.12a for Unit Illustration,

Interesting article, but I guess I should rephrase this...anyone got a DEAD P6042 that I could get the line cord out of?

P6042 -- bad line cord
Hi all,
Among other things I bought at hamfest, I got a P6042 current probe that won't power on. I believe all that may be wrong with it is a bad line cord, as there's no continuity between chassis

Hi Robin,
You are referring to the Long Tail Pair which is an incredibly versatile circuit that has been used for over 80 years n tube circuits, transistor circuits, and integrated circuits.

Yes,
Designing stuff so that it was, as much as possible, independent of the particular characteristics of a given device as it aged or cane from various suppliers, was one of the great skills of tube

Chuck, do you know if the Bugle Boy, etc, tubes were even used in the

That is something that few people understand.
Tektronix was trying to get state of the art performance
out of fairly common vacuum tubes..... but with as long
a vacuum tube life as they could

I have a QuickStart 8 demo board. This has several interesting signals,
including a ~150ps rise clock (with ugly jitter), and the manual has full
schematics. The schematics are fairly useless however,
