The discussion reminds me that the main oxidation remover in Brasso is ammonia. I have never tried ammonia to clean contacts but am wondering if it might work. It would leave no residue but spraying

Thank you.
Brasso is multi-use, and application methods are quite different when cleaning Tek contacts, as opposed to cleaning

The only way I service the attenuators is a pain in the butt.
First you have to remove the knobs from below the CRT. I use
a pair of needle nosed pliers as a pry bar against the bezel

Agreed here. I would not recommend Brasso on the Tek 24XX attenuators, use it for cutlery and pots/pans.
It has abrasive materials, petroleum distillates and Ammonia (presumably in water).

BTW, if you have a frequency counter (maybe your DMM has that function), you might look at the points where waveforms #58, #59, or #60 are supposed to exist to see if the oscillator is oscillating
