Hi Siggi, I find the 485 to be the nicest portable of its generation by far. It does have a pretty small screen but the image quality, low duty-cycle brightness, bandwidth and features like 50 / 1M

It's sure a beautiful color though, and the spot size is almost absurdly small. It looks like it'll resolve 10 cycles of the calibrator/div at 1MHz.

I guess you tried bending the halves in the socket back together?
If they don't hold perhaps you can stuff a tiny sliver of silicone
rubber behind them.

I think this was designed back when floating scopes was still
commonplace, and their current answer "simply don't do this crazy
shit" didn't cut it.

Actually, it's the + contacts that are driving me up the wall. I've put a
slide bend in the pin of a tee that I use most often and that helps.

The cause could be anything anywhere in the house. The easiest way to track
it down is to shut off circuit breakers one at a time until it stops. That
gives you an idea where in the house the problem

I would say break ground loops in the safety ground in a relatively safe manner.
Consider primary and secondary side measurements.
On the primary side, you would still need an isolation transformer
