An NTC inrush limiting thermistor should work just fine. There are a lot of kinds, so choose properly. It should stay hot with the normal load, so be sure to provide good clearance around it.

pot parts were from another AB pot multiple stack obtained from surplus place sadly no longer in business and that was several years ago.
parts may be still available? not sure....

I just repaired a PG506, usual shorted cap in power supply. Getting to the caps required disassembling the beast (assembly cost must have been high on this).
