Firstly, I wouldn't call everyone making an operating error a complete idiot. Secondly, not everyone is immediately aware that trigger source selection allows each of the four channels as trigger

Usually PC power supplies fail because of worn out aluminum
electrolytic capacitors which are easy enough to replace. In my
opinion they are routinely under specified as older power supplies
lasted

I use the Linear Technology DC1747A-A for isolated RS232.
It's very nice, but makes some minimal noise, so if you need it really
quiet with no Y capacitors you are probably better off

Speaking of X2 caps, so far I've only seen "Rifa" branded (Evox Rifa?) capacitors blow up. Oddly enough virtually all the 1980s equipment I've seen Rifa branded capacitors - I don't recall seeing any

USB based test instrumentation bothers me for this very reason. The
continuous shield and signal ground connect all of the peripherals
together through any hubs and the PC risking everything.

I would use the 250 MHz or 500 MHz x10 readout Texas probes available
on Ebay for about $45 or $75 each. HP/Agilent/Keysight and some other
manufacturers use them also.

I did not go through your list in detail; I just showed some examples.
I would leave the high voltage capacitors alone. I have never heard
of them failing in a 22xx oscilloscope.

While the parts list specifies capacitors as electrolytic with the
notation "ELCTLT", that applies to *all* electrolytic capacitors
including C374 which is actually a 150D series hermetically
