Re: Leaking cap in 475A on A7 Timing board
Oh, that is the holdoff circuit. I thought I was looking at part of
the horizontal timing circuit.
Accuracy of the holdoff circuit is not critical so an aluminum
electrolytic capacitor will be fine.

Re: Tektronix 2235 small/not work trace line move
Thank you very much Tom!
The resistors look overheated, one of R268 has burnt down (2.98K). Therefore, I will replace all the new 1 Watt and raised above the board. Photo is OK !
Interesting that

A caveat
I recently tried to purchase a calibration fixture from a web-site. The item was an 067-0525-02, female BNC to dual BNC male. I Googled this and found a website offering a number of them at a reduced

Re: Leaking cap in 475A on A7 Timing board
Thanx David for your detailed answer. I do have a 4uF / 160V film cap, it´s not small (3cm) but there is enough room to mount it in place. So maybe this is the best option.
In the schematic however I

OT - Software/firmware for "Q-Wave USB wireless data kit" under Win 7 (USB wireless Extender)
Despite several days searching the web I've been unable to find this and
the manufacturer seems to have vanished and I'm now desperate - thus the

The CD with it is XP only :-( I know

Re: CRT Beam gave out on me
Alright, i suppose I will start with that. I opened up the unit a couple of days ago but I decided to start with the schematics first. It is quite a lot to take in.

Displaying only on the middle 1/3rd of the screen is normal when the
beam finder function is used. It is designed to do that in case the
trace would normally be off of the screen. The beam finder

Re: Leaking cap in 475A on A7 Timing board
Tantalum capacitors have better high frequency performance than
aluminum electrolytics so to make up for it, an aluminum electrolytic
replacement needs to have about 3 or 4 times the capacitance.

Re: 50 Ohm BNC male connectors
Hi Pete,
As far as I know the only reference came from me about the Tunnel Diode Pulser which John Addis designed with a special 50 ohm BNC connector to reduce aberrations. Maybe jack knows where

Re: New Tek 515A
Right. You just need to be aware of the time delay relay in many of these scopes. As you bring up the line voltage, the TD relay will not fire so there will be no HV on some circuits. Until you get up

I had misread and thought that that scope was from the '70s according to
his post. Tantalum caps were first developed for the military in the 1930s.

Doubt there are any tantalums in a 1955 scope.
A variac will work as there is no time delay relay in this scope and the rectifiers are solid state (Se or Si depending on any upgrades).
Sounds like a

I'm curious where is the reference to tektronix using and are converting to
a 50 ohm vs 52 ohm BNC connector ?

I've not touched a scope in 30 years but have wanted one. I just picked up a 2236 for a mere $46 locally, so I didn't even have to pay shipping. The CTM seems A-OK however I only get a beam if I hold
