I just happened to notice this cross over between groups. There's a conversation going on in the HP/Agilent/Keysight group regarding RIFA caps, and the question Schaffner filters is broached there as

OK current update is that VR45 and Q45 are in good shape even if VR45 could be a shade higher (only 6.05V versus 6.2V @ 10mA). This was verified on a 577 CT in both swept and DC modes and also with

Nigel,
In my previous message I mixed up "crowbar" and "current foldback". I intended to say that there is no current foldback, so the current stays at the maximum value when a short occurs.

Albert thanks for your inputs but I would beg to differ, there is for sure a crowbar and it's comprised of Q45, an SCR clearly designed to clamp the 5V directly to ground, and it's triggering device

Point taken, and previously considered.
Yes, those sockets are exposed to live mains voltage, WHEN and ONLY WHEN the Leftmost switch is ON.
Those are my choice, and I am well aware of the dangers,

Issac,
Good, then you are ahead of me on this. The HV Transformers on the 465 are also known to fail. Interested to learn what you finally find as the problem.

Re: PG506 PSU Problem
Nigel,
Current is limited to a maximum by conduction of VR55 but there is no crowbar function. VR45 fires in case of overvoltage.
I would put a voltmeter on +5 V and an ammeter in series with F65 (or

Re: Which TDS7000 (Non-B) Serial Numbers are to be avoided?
The TDS (and DPO) 7000 series seem to be very few and far between on the open market, I think it may be a case of taking what's avaialble rather than being able to pic and choose.

Re: Easy DIY Build - AC Volts / Amps, Current Limiter Test Bench
At the very least some kind of shrouded plug/socket arrangement. Something like the fluke DMM leads mean you cant get your fingers in there.

Tek TDS744a scope Options 2C, 3c, 4C hardware ?
Does anyone know what hardware is required for the TDS744a Options:
2C (comm analyzer) ,
3C (Optical short Lambda)
&
4C (Optical, long Lambda) ?
& where to get this hardware ?

Are those banana jacks exposing bare metal that is at mains voltage?......
I really think you should rethink that design...

Which TDS7000 (Non-B) Serial Numbers are to be avoided?
Hi to All,
Rather straightforward question. Anybody? Early TDS7000 Series NVRAM's have sometimes a too high current drain. Later ones (like the B-Series) use the DS1245Y-120 Devices.
