That is not an aluminum electrolytic capacitor. That is
a very high quality capacitor, leave it alone.
Really, if you are replacing parts like that, you are doing
your scope great harm.

The body of any aluminum electrolytic capacitor that
I am aware of is made from aluminum. It won't solder
without special efforts.
Could you be more specific?

Re: Serial number location for 7603
Thank you, Philip, for the memory jog. I've seen that style of tag, many times, but forgot due to years of non-refresh.

I'll take your word for it until I have time to independently confirm.
Sorry to the rest of you for reducing the signal to noise ratio. I was trying to help, but sometimes that goes wrong.

Hopefully the last 485 recap question
There are several caps on the timing board and on the inverter board that seem to be grounded by soldering to the body of the capacitor. Is this necessary to replicate?

Re: Replacing ceramics on a 485 recap
I agree - ceramic caps hardly ever fail, especially in ordinary supply bypassing applications. They can get leaky, though, but that hardly matters for bypassing. I can recall only three ceramic cap

Replacing ceramics on a 485 recap
I am close to finishing up with a 485 total electrolytic/tant recap. Should I replace the power supply/horizontal amp ceramics?

That is due to the amount of time the z-axis circuitry
takes to get the beam lit up and going. There is an
adjustment to minimize the effect, but it isn't perfect.

475 Sweep question
When I look at a 100Mhz signal, instead of starting at the left of the CRT
graticule, the trace starts at the 2nd major division - 2 divisions to the
right of the Left Hand Side. Is this normal?
