Hello group!
For anyone that is interested in these extenders, either fully built or parts, I ran out of everything from the Amazon orders. I'm sorry that I had to give the Amazon orders priority, but Amazon really takes the "ship within 3 days" seriously so I had to scramble to get those 20 built / tested / shipped.
For anyone that got one late, I'm sorry about that. I really had no idea that I would sell more than a few a month!
I have bought new PC boards and I have all parts on hand for another 20 - except for the 56 pin edge connectors, which are due by the first week in Feb.
If anyone has a source for that connector I could sell you everything else right now (either built up or parts). Otherwise, once I get those and finish up another batch of boards I'll be getting in touch with group members FIRST, then I'll put more up on Amazon after that. Several of you are out of the USA so I want to try to get boards shipped to you (Amazon is not set up for outside USA).
FYI - the new batch of boards I got with YELLOW mask... they look pretty cool but I am a little disappointed that the silkscreen (black) is not as easy to read. I have some of the blue boards left, but after that they will be yellow.
THanks again for the great interest in these. If anyone has any suggestions for changes, let me know. I am making small tweaks now for the next version (if I need more).
Or any other type of boards that people might like, I'm up for that, too.

Good Day,

The TM500/5000 interface connectors are *incompatible* with the 5000-series o'scopes.
Just don't.

It's not only a matter of mechanical fit - as Tektronix has wisely prevented incorrect insertions by design - the aforementioned notches.
Pins A1 to A13 and B1 to B13 are completely incompatible - the mentioned +200 VDC supply present at pin A1 on the 5000-series o'scopes is just one example of many incompatibilities.

The FB Old Tek Scopes group should nicely compliment this site.

FB is what you make of it. I have mine limited to FAMILY only and not all of them. Think I have 22 or so 'friends'. When I get the occasional invite or request I simply say I'm sorry but my policy is ... And I don't even get too many invites cause my settings are locked down. Limited in that way it's a wonderful way to share photo and videos and stories of interest to family only. I ignore the news feeds.

Now with groupsio searching messages is a pleasure. But had the group stayed on Yahoo it wasn't that much (any?) better than FB. A BIG future groupsio issue is the photo search or lack thereof. Still better overall than Yahoo.

And, must say, I don't quite understand not using FB 'for political reasons'. But that's probably just as well.

Would appreciate the pictures. I was able to remove them easily from the back side but reinstalling them maybe a problem with getting the mounting screws back in with the CRT in place.

Focus on 475 scope

Hi everyone, i have 2. scope 475. I have recaped both and now full working. But the focus on the second one isn't sharp like the first one. I checked high voltage, 2.72kv for the first and 2.6k for the second. Focus and asting are working but i cant adjust the line more than that. Someone know what could be the problem ?

It looks like something has caused XY mode to be activated. If you really wanted XY mode it looks like you should depress only the Ch2 button on the vertical mode selector but having both Ch1 and Ch2 depressed probably produces the mixed movement on Ch1.

If you haven't selected XY on the Time/Div switch then check for 5V on pin 18 of U600, this indicates that something else (faulty cam switch segment?) has caused XY mode to be activated. XY mode activates the lockout function on the sweep controller. The 1MHz square wave you see is probably the Ch1-Ch2 chop frequency.

There are a couple of signals that use multiple pins. Do you know if the connectors are the same (56 pins)? And there are keys that should prevent plugging a module into a non-compatible socket. On the TM500/5000, they are keyed between pins 6 and 7 (from the bottom).

Dan, these look great but will you be making more? I'd be interested in two. If you're so inclined the "complete kit" format would be my first choice, to save me a few bucks and you some flux smoke. Fully built would be my second choice.

Tek 475 no horizontal

Hi,

I have a Tek 475, that I recently repaired ( faulty cap in voltage divider for HV circuit).
I tested the scope and checked as per service manual - worked perfectly.
Turned off and unplugged power lead

When putting the cover back on the edge of the cover caught a single wire connecting the DM44 to the timing board - breaking the wire off the timing board.
I reversed to cover removal and then unplugged other end of the wire.

Re tested scope and all functions work perfectly - so powered down and left overnight.
Next day decided to re-solder wire back onto timing board.
- Removed A8 Trigger / Z-axis board and A7 timing board as per service manual.
- Re-soldered wire ( easy to see where as came from) to trigger board
- Refitted A7 and A8 boards ( I also took pics of all cables just in case) - all cables returned to correct positions.
- Powered up - no horizontal trace :-((

If I set input to display CH1 and CH2 - 2 dots appear.
- Vertical adjust on CH2 moves CH2 up/down
- Vertical adjust on CH1 moves CH1 diagonally right/up.
- Horizontal adjust no effect.

Tested with spare scope - getting square wave from J399, TP526 shows 250mv square wave @~1Mhz.
U520 outputs also show square wave
- Waveform at Q566 is small square wave ( approx 8Mv p-p)

Suggestions of where fault may be - or where to test
Horizontal amp and sweep gen - no saw tooth waveform - probably due to trigger fault???

Dan,

Do the electronic components on your board make it incompatible to extend the 5000 series mainframe scopes? I see that pads 3 & 4 are ganged together. Does that also make it incompatible?

I've got a 5CT1N curve tracer that I need to work on with my 5440 and would love to use your extender as long as it does melt it. Pin 1A has 200v on the mainframe.

I found a dead transistor in the Z Amp, which prompted me to check all the
Z Amp transistors, but the rest are OK. My 453A does this on the fastest
sweep setting, but only half a major division, and my 7834 not at all. The
Z compensation adjustment capacitor has no effect, so I`ll look in the
sweep section for the adjustment.

That is not an aluminum electrolytic capacitor. That is
a very high quality capacitor, leave it alone.

Really, if you are replacing parts like that, you are doing
your scope great harm.
