When working with enamel magnet or resistance wire, for years  I simply held the end over the flame of a match to burn off the insulation and heat the wire to a dull red.  Then a quick swipe with a small folded strip of very fine sandpaper readied the wire for soldering.  I learned to do this while winding all of the resistance elements for a three decade audio attenuator.  The work went very quickly.
