I learned something new.

I’ve been using my TDS380 for monitoring the output of an RF amplifier delivering 100W into 50 ohms, that’s 200V peak to peak – using a 10x probe.

The TDS380 manual lists a peak amplitude of 13 volts peak above 3 MHz. Fortunately, through the 10x probe, I was hitting the ‘scope with 10 volts peak – within limits, but I didn’t realize that I could exceed the operating limits with a display that was on screen. Had I been looking at 175 watts instead, I’d have been over the 13 volt limit!

I guess it always pays to check the manual!
