Just found something in between the no-name and the Momentive: Loctite 234323 (aka Loctite SI 5011CL). Available from Amazon, e-bay and Digikey.

In that case polyethylene foam may be just the thing, it often comes

Yea you never have a tube of RTV handy when you need it. I've given up
on the proper electronics grade from Momentive and just buy the cheap
stuff at the discount store (about $4 I think). It goes bad inside the
tube just the same, which is all I have come to expect. And you don't
even get a nice silicone bung out of it, like with the acid cure.

The other thing would be to prevent them from moving along the longitudinal axis - but once some stiff wires are in place that would not be such an issue. I'm more concerned of rattling (and possibly annoying noises) than of a migration along the longitudinal axis.
