Someone posted a paper on Marine defense battalions early in the war. I lost
it. Can that be reposted?

Hi All,

I saw this thread and I wanted to share some additional information, I found some of the old Defense Battalion//AAA tables of organizations.  I am sending the ones i was able to find (I may have others but it's been almost 30 years!) .  Anyway here they are.

I'd like to add that if you read my work (MARINE DEFENSE BATTALIONS, OCTOBER 1939 - DECEMBER 1942: THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS IN THE EARLY PHASES OF WORLD WAR II), I'd like to hear your thoughts.  I am planning to do some work on it and try for publication (as I am sure you all know work can get in the way).  Thanks in advance for your comments (privately please and thank you)

Hi again,

Forgot to attach the tables of organization.  My apologies for the double tap.

Hello all,

I wanted to share some of the TOs for the USMC Defense/AAA battalions.  Although as large as they were "battalion" may a bit misleading.

I'd like to add that if you read "MARINE DEFENSE BATTALIONS, OCTOBER 1939 - DECEMBER 1942: THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS IN THE EARLY PHASES OF WORLD WAR II" I would be interested in your comments (both good and critical) so please feel free to send them to me privately.

Thanks in advance

Steve, could I get a copy of your thesis? I just want to confirm the non-standard guns that were assigned to some of the early TOEs. I think your thesis showed the same allocation as the list I compiled. If it is the same paper I'm thinking of you did a good job and I saw no errors.

I'm working on a book on "Marine Corps Weapons, 1898 to Present" for Casemate Publishing.

Hi Gordo,

Of course!  I am happy to share.  Thank you for the kind comments.

that sounds like an interesting topic.  The Marine Corps is know for its eclectic mix of both naval and military weapons.  The Defense battalions were no exception using 3 Army AAA guns and 5-inch naval guns from decommissioned warships.
