A quick question: Does anyone know the nomenclature for the platoon-level subunits of the British 2nd and 3rd Parachute Regiments (5th Airborne Brigade, Aldershot) back in 1985? Looking for the Company names and sequence. Trying to verify what I have and not finding my notes(!). many thanks in advance!!

What role did the patrol platoon have? Ground recce (as opposed to vehicle-mounted recce by the Recce Playoon)?
Thanks and regards,

IIRC,
When 16 Para Bde was disbanded in 1977, the Pathfinder Coy went also. The Patrols Pl was initially formed (one in each Bn) from these personnel. Only one Bn would be In-Role for Parachute Assault, so each Coy needed one Pl. They eventually formed a fourth coy with the Recce Plt (which were the Land Rover equipped Plt, except if they were roled as the AMF(L) Bn. Then the Recce Pl would be mounted in CVR (T) Scimitar). By 1985, Patrols Pl was again called Pathfinder Pl but still in Patrols Coy with Recce Pl. See below 1985 SOHB (Crown Copyright)
