TNC Buffer (RNR)
Okay, you packet junkies, I have a question about the internal TNC. It have an MFJ-1270B that I am using to connect to my 710G. On the 710G I have CONOK ON and BBS ON. I can connect to my 710G but then I get an RNR after connection (Receive Not Ready.) This is because I have nothing connected to me serial adapter on the 710G, it's just sitting there, and the serial buffer gets full. But... shouldn't the 710G be able to operate stand-alone and accept a small number of BBS messages without being connected to a computer? I thought it had enough internal memory to store BBS messages. Is there a way to flush the serial buffer when a computer isn't connected? Maybe I misunderstand the BBS ON option.

Thank you, Pat. I was wondering if XFLOW would be the issue but just as stated on that site, it isn't intuitive. I thought about disconnecting my serial adapter then if that didn't work, toggle XFLOW but hadn't gotten around to it. I'll give it a shot today and see how it responds.
BELOW IS WRONG: In short, XFLOW ON causes the TNC serial port to use hardware flow control. XFLOW OFF tells the TNC serial port to use software flow control. Setting XFLOW ON will allow the TNC to continue responding to incoming connections even though its serial buffer is full (or it just sends serial data and forgets about it; I'm not sure.) My TNC2 in the house has XFLOW set on while the TM-D710G in the truck has XFLOW set off. I'll be setting the 710 XFLOW ON and reporting back. Correct: After reviewing the 710 manual as well as the MFJ 1270B manual, XFLOW OFF uses hardware flow control (RTS). XFLOW ON uses software flow control. That makes more sense. |

I confirmed tonight that XFLOW OFF solved my issue. I also turned the mailbox on and have successfully written and read mail using a TNC2 as the other end.
