shorter 'ethernet' cable??
Tim Manwell
Quick question...
I'm changing the setup of my TM-D710GA, which will basically have the head unit sitting right on top of the main body, on my desk. I don't need the millions of feet of 'ethernet' cable that came with the rig in order to make this connection. I'd rather have a short 1 or 2ft run.
Any recommendations on a ready made ethernet cable from, say, Amazon, that will work??? 73, Tim |

Any cable length will work. I use a 3 foot cable on my desk.

I bought 15 foot flat ones from amazon for my mobile installation. In my experience any Cat 5/6 cable will work fine for it. 73's Adam Mahnke KC2ANT On Fri, Sep 30, 2022 at 9:12 AM Tom Schaefer NY4I <thomasmschaefer@...> wrote:

A CAT 7 or 8 is best for stray RF protection. Try good ole Amazon to source. 73, Phil / K4PO

You can buy a kit to cut and attach a CAT plug.

Yes but then he would be taking a good cable with two good ends and chopping it up when buying a $5 cable will do the job nicely. Never modifying a good cable is kind of a rule for me anyway as you will need that one about 10 minutes after you modify it.

I use the very thin CAT6 cables as they are easy to move around. They are not shielded but that has never posed an issue on the D710. I use one for the MIC cable too. Tom NY4I

I also believe the question the OP asked was can he use a short cable. The answer is yes.
