How to know if TM D700 ":sees" the computer
Most of my radios require I take action for it to connect to the computer. I find no instructions in the two D700 manuals on that. When I plug in the serial port, the radio and computer do not communicate. It has been so long since I made it work I do not remember how to link the D700 and the computer via the serial port. Anyone remember?
Look in Device Manager to see if the PC "sees" the rig. Then try running your editing software, e.g., RT Systems. As I recall, the screen on the control head will show a message once the software accesses the rig.

Thanks, Larry. I have no working computer with a serial port. I have an old Belkin serial-to-USB adapter that successfully connects to all my other radios. The device managers of my Windows and Raspberry Pi computers connect to it and I download and upload from-to several radios. From your note, it seems that it the connection is made, the D700 immediately reacts, nothing has to be set in the radio. That's good to know. I wonder what I need to connect to the D700 serial port?
I use an old Belkin Serial to USB adapter with my D700. The D700 has a 9 pin
"D" shspe serial port. You may need a gender changer as I recall. I will
look at my aet up over the weekend and post further.

It seems we are using the same adapter. I am using a gender changer but it is otherwise untested since not of my other radios have a serial port. I've got another gender changer so I'll try it. Please tell me what I will see when the radio detects connection to the computer. I need need to know what to look for.
