Anyone who is running an Echolink Repeater Node on a TM-D710A who has any info to share on getting it set-up, and operating "Tips & Tricks," I would appreciate hearing from you.
The goal is to set up a "repeater node" via Echolink at my home QTH with the TM-710A to allow user access to a repeater for which I am the Trustee. Putting Echolink on the repeater at the repeater site is not an option at this time, although that would be the preferable route.
The TM-D710A is supposed to have something in the hardware or firmware to facilitate an Echolink Repeater Node, but there seems to be a paucity of info in the manual (or perhaps I just don't understand it!).

Ah this is amusing.
I used a Signalink USB sound interface because it provided the PTT signal.
You can connect to the back 6 pin mini-din connector. I set t his as external data on B side.
Now, Echolink requires squelch to determine if there is signal on the receiver. In its absence noise will pin the echolink node to always receive.
So:
- create a jumper set for the 6 pin mini-din on the Signal link but do not take the receive signal for the 6 pin mini-din.
- use the speaker jumper cable to take the headphone/speaker jack on the D7610 and feed it to the auxiliary input on the Signballink
Now the receive signal has squelch from the D710 and things can operate as expected.

Yes, I totally ignored the computer side of the equation. All I have available is a Windows-based PC, running either WIN 7 or WIN 10.
However, I have several PCs available, so one could be converted to Linux if that will make things simpler. Unfortunately, I have zero experience with Linux.

The voice feed for echolink from a 6 pin mini-din through a Signallink (or other typical sound card interface) is a bit ornate.
In principle an AllStar interface car should be smoother, but even here you will have to programmatically manage the COS signal.

If you are willing to go with LINUX then:
- an AllStar interface
- AllStar software
- through the 6 pin mini-din interface to the radio should work fine.

With the cables from Kenwood (or home made), it works quite well. If I recall, there is an Advanced manual that covers the setup for Echolink mode. The Kenwood interface is all you need to connect to the computer.
Our club uses this on the W4AFC-R node.

I purchased the Kenwood interface cables some time back, just haven't done anything with them yet.
The young man in our local ham group (an "IT" person by profession) who had maintained the existing Echolink node at his home, using a Rigblaster set-up, has now moved on to other interests. I don't think I can replicate what he was doing with the Rigblaster, so looking for a (hopefully) simpler solution.
I do a have a Signalink that's not doing anything right now, but don't see that as a simpler set-up than the TM-D710A, but I'm in the early stages of this process.

As mentioned, with the Kenwood cables, you do not need the Rigblaster or any other interface. The Kenwood cable has a serial connection for PTT (you may need a USB to RS232 adapter). Just download the Windows EchoLink program and you have everything you need.
The only downside is it dedicates a D710 to one use which is a bit of overkill but it makes for an easy setup. I think the V7A does it too if you can find one of those in your club.
