Mini-DIN band?

I am going by memory BUT there is a menu selection for external data which can be assigned to either band a or band b. That as I understand it enables access through the 6 pin mini-din for that band.

Greetings D700 enthusiasts (and hopefully an expert or two),

Having read the D700 manual and the Specialized Communications manual, I cannot tell what sets the band used when a Mini-DIN-connected device keys the transmitter. Does it follow the APRS Data Band, or does it follow the PTT from the radio's front panel?

I'm hoping it's the former as I'd like to connect an external TNC and still be able to use the voice side of the radio without any band switching or TNC disabling.

That connector is for data and will key whichever side of the radio you set as the “data” (A or B).   I use mine with an actual TNC ( not for APRS)
