Thanks for that info. I have tried cleaning the contacts and even a different cable with no success. I'll see if someone locally has a D700 head I can try Thanks guys John On 4/1/2022 11:07 AM, Bill Simm wrote:

I had this exact same problem with my former D700 years ago. I sent it to the former Kenwood repair facility in Virginia (which I believe is no longer in operation), and after it came back it worked for a few days and the exact same problem returned. I don't know what the repair facility did or what the cause was. I ended up getting a D710 and sold the D700 as-is to another Ham. I don't know if he ever was able to resolve the issue.
Since then I have read about several D700s experiencing this failure mode. Probably a design flaw or problematic component. Most disappointing. 73, N5TEV |

The only time I've seen this type of screen is when my D710 has been put into either firmware upgrade mode via the Kenwood windows firmware program or memories programming mode using the Kenwood MCP-6A programming software. --David KI6ZHD On 04/01/2022 08:07 AM, Bill Simm

It may be that something has happened to the connection between the control head and the radio, check the cable at both make sure it is plugged into the control and radio securely at both ends, it may have come loose or partially unplugged at either end. It also would not hurt while you were at it, to get some electrical contact cleaner and clean the plugs on both ends of the cable and the receptacles on the radio and control head. That 115200 bps is the baud rate between the control head and radio and the message is telling you the baudrate is wrong for some reason, which like I said, could be simply due to a loose connection. When I turned it on today the message on the control head read the following PROG 115200 bps, Trying various buttons etc made no difference. Anyone had this problem or ideas how to fix it. It is a stand alone with no PC connected to it, is there anyway to see if the problem is in the head or the radio?
