a stupid question...
Dave Laverty <dave7595@...>
OK, I'm new to playing around with this and the closest ham club is in the next town... I soldered the wires (d@mn small) that go from the D700 to my Garmin SP3. I think I got everything set up on both units, now how can I tell if they are talking to each other? Since I'm at my base I set the GPS to use inside. Should I see anything on the GPS screen? Should I see anything on the D700 display? Can I use the same setup with my D7?

Pressing Pcon button you should see the GPS sentences appear every time it spits them out of the serial cable into the D700.

If everything is working properly, the GPS icon on the D700 display will cycle on and off. You'll also see MY POS on the screen every few minutes, if your signal is being picked up by a relay, wide or digipeater station. Lastly, you can check the FINDU site. http://www.findu.com/cgi-bin/find.cgi?kg6jev Here is a position report for my call - don't worry about the fact I'm in the middle of nowhere, it's a brand new area, so the report is quite accurate. Simply copy and paste the URL into your browser and replace my callsign with yours. If you have a -n after your callsign in your radio, be sure to include that too. If everything is good AND your signal is being digipeated, then you'll see your position on the screen, like mine. 73, Steven ----- Original Message -----
