Re: Mobile Installation

Todd Ellis <ellistr@...>

Here is the N2XL mobile installation. The middle radio is a commercial 220
MHz ACSB radio, and the mount is from Gamber Johnson - the Short Stacker.
My Garmin GPS12 sits below on the carpeting.

TMD700A/IBM z-50 APRS CE/MAGELLAN 410 MAP

Gun Steele WØGUN <w0gun@...>

Anyone using this combo? The MAP 410 works fine with the D700 on xmit,
but we have never seen the freq. display change to the APRS info screen.
When any APRS data (few and far between in SW KS) is rcvd; the ?? appear
after the callsign even from SUNSAT. Do we have something wrong with this
Kenwood? The IBM works ok with PakRattCE and Teletype GPS etc. Any info
would be appreciated.

Subject: [TMD700A] Cross band repeat

I have now been given the mod for enabling cross band rebroadcast.

This comes from a copy of a fax that has Kenwood across the top of it.
Here
is a transcript.

+----
5. Modification procedures for models to other Type (Transmitter band
expansion, ext)
Set a desired destination by adding or deleting three chip jumpers (R659,
R661, R662) and a lead jumper (W602) on the foil side of the TX-RX unit
(X57-586X-XX). (Refer to the attached tables 2 to 19 for details.) [Didn't
get a copy of those].

Remove R659 and W062 to extend the transmitting band.
Remove R675 to modify the channel display mode. [Shows channel instead of
frequency?]
Remove R674 to modify the repeater.
(Repeater in TM-D700A to U.S.A./Canada has already been modified before
factory)
+----

I have looked at the board and cannot find R674, however there are tow
chip
resistors (0 ohm?) labelled REPTER and CH. Ay a guess these are R674 and
R675 respectively. I may try to remove REPTER later and watch the results.

Usual caveats in place, if it breaks because of these mods, you are on
your
own.

DISPLAY

k5qm@...

Talked to Kenwood about giving us some options for the display
colors.
They said that they had no complaints about the amber display being
hard to see in daylight. Am I the only one that hates the amber
color?
I seem to recall hearing lots of complaints about earlier models with
amber diaplays. If you don't like it, please let Kenwood know. If you
do
like, my vote will not count anyway. Great radio otherwise.

The sub band receives 118.000- 174.000, & 220- 512 MHZ.
These are some examples of what you may see in your display...

Example when you are listening to 20 meters in the main band you have the 2 meter DX Cluster frequency in the sub band with the TNC engaged if a DX spot comes up the FREQUENCY/ UTC TIME/ AND THE DX STATIONS CALL SIGN WILL SCROLL ACROSS THE SCREEN. If you have the menu set a AUTO this information with get transferred to the main band automatically...

14. 5 antenna ports
15. Direct RS-232 port on the rear panel, you do not need to buy any external interface unit to connect it to your PC, its just a snap DB-9 to DB-9 straight cable that's it...
16. You may use the Kenwood RCP software to control the rig.
17. It is a 12 volt unit and uses the same mobile bracket as the TS-430S, 440S, 140S, 680S, 690S, 450S, 570D/S

THIS RADIO COMES IN THREE CONFIGURATIONS...

2. The "Black Box" with no display, in this case you may use the RCP software to control the radio with your PC
3. You may also use the Black Box and connect the REMOTE DISPLAY for use in your car. It is small and compact like the Kenwood TM-D700A remote display.
4. You may also use the complete radio and use the Remote Display in your car.

The radio is NOT FCC type accepted, it does not have a model number,
estimated price, or delivery date hopefully it may be available at the end
of the year.....................

Samuel Barker <srbarker@...>

I downloaded the file (which was a 900K+ JPEG).  I have converted it to PDF format (quite a bit smaller).

If you would like a copy of it, and you can’t get it from the web link, send an email to w7yyy@... with this in the subject text:  “New Kenwood Info Sheet”.  My server will automatically reply to you with a copy of the PDF file.  Or you can try this “mailto” link, it should do the subject line for you.  New Kenwood Info Sheet.

The scan isn’t pretty, but you can read it.

The underscores were the problem.  I took them out of the URL and it worked fine.

Looks like an awesome radio, but I have LOTS of questions…at least until Kenwood releases more info.

Try this link, and look for the hot topics section.
