Firmware version

Tim Shephard <timshephard@...>

Is there anyway to find out what firmware version the D700 has?

I am going to send mine in for repair and was just wanting to check before
and after.

Programming Software

jay.t.campbell@...

Just purchased my new D700 and I am having trouble with the
programming software. I cannot get the automatic repeater shifts to
work when using the software to set memory channels even though the
Auto Offset box is checked. It works when I program using the VFO on
the radio itself.

Can anyone shed some light on this.

Thank you,

As far as I know, there has been no upgrade issued for the D700E
here yet,
but it was being tested some time ago.
I also upgraded my TH-D7E. For you with a TM-D700 it might be
interesting to read the report I wrote about it in the TH-D7 group
and compare if any of these problems also applies to the TM-D700. The
link to it is: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/TH-D7/message/195

I just received my THD-7A(G) USA Ver to go along with my new TMD-700A . The Software for the TMD works Great, the software for the THD7 wont work at all I get a com port timed out. I also read that the software only works with the European G Model. Can anyone confirm this ?? Also do you use the programming cable for the other HT's or the PC Cable port instead ??

Re: Digest Number 250

Thomas M. Schaefer <toms@...>

I was told at the Orlando Hamfest that Kenwood is doing a firmware upgrade
to let the D700 control the TS2000. This would be from the same control
head. Apparently, they are considering a firmware upgrade. The remote heads
on the TS2000 and D700 look similar, but this change would allow the D700 to
control both radios. I was given no dates or other info.

Does anyone have any helpful hints on getting a TMV-7A and a KPC-3 Plus
TNC to work ??

I have made up the cable and triple checked it but it wont do anything, tx
or rx even though the Rcv light on the TNC stays constantly lit up.

To my knowledge, here in the states at least, there is no new version of
the
TM-D700, but there IS one of the TH-D7, the handheld brother of the
TM-D700.

I believe there was someone overseas a while back that mentioned something
about Kenwood UK testing new firmware for the TM-D700E (in addition to the
TH-D7E), but that was for the European versions only. Whether it was
released or not, I don't know, and whether or not there will be one for
the
USA, I don't know that either.

This link may help with some programming of the TNC -

Re: New Guy

Craig,

Glad you joined the group.. You will find the D700 is great for APRS.  If this you first exposure to digital modes, of course you will have many questions.  Some of my first questions were answers to path, why and how it all worked among other questions.  A little research on the web to several sites for APRS was helpful.  I have a D700 and find it to be a good radio.  There are a few quirks but over all I enjoy the radio.

As just a member of this reflector, I would recommend that you go and review some of the emails sent to this reflector.  The URL http://login.yahoo.com/config/login?.intl=us&.src=ygrp&.done=http://groups.yahoo.com%2Fmygroups to log in to Yahoo egroups.   The answer to your question may have been answered in previous emails.  Also, if you post questions, it is helpful to be specific on a single topic.  There are a lot of nice HAMS on this reflector.

Some help files... here are some URL's for APRS

IF you have the VS module... find this one fun.

I see in your email you have a network connection and plan to run a Internet Gate to APRS.  I run an internet gate in Houston, TX.  Check to see if local radio clubs have a permanent IGATE in your area along with what are the Relay and WIDE digipeaters.  You are welcome to setup a gate at your house but be careful not to open traffic from the Internet to local RF..  APRS is great and the D700 help re-ignite some interest in APRS.  Have fun

Just joined the list. I also just installed my TMD700 in my truck, I
also managed to get my Garmin GPS 12 hooked up to it and actually
received some APRS stuff on it today. Now I just need to learn what
I'm doing and I'll be all set.

I just set up my TMV-7A as a base station at the house and will be
hooking my KPC 3+ to it the first of the week. My computer system
will be next and since I have a cable hook up I hope to be
broadcasting my APRS stuff out on the net.

If anyone has any helpful hints or help files on what I plan to do

TMD700A & GPS & Weather

Wayne Joyner <joyner@...>

Ladies and Gentlemen:

I am interested in some input about a configuration I have been able
to get to work. (To some degree). It does still has some problems.
Here goes.

I have :

Garmin GPS III+
Peet Brothers Ultimeter 2000
Kenwood TMD700A

I run a Compaq laptop using APRS 2.5.0 with dual serial ports.
Explain why in a minute. The weather station is mounted on my vehicle
and oriented to North when at a watch point using the GPS or on-board
Ford Explorer compass.

The weather station is plugged into a USB -> Serial port adapter and
plugged into the laptop. Weather station is set to data download mode.
The TDM700A is connected to the standard serial port on the laptop.
The TMD700A is set to Packet Mode on the TNC not APRS. The GPS is
connected through the standard GPS port on the TMD700A. The data side
of the TMD700A is set to 'B' and DCD Sense is set to 'Both'. APRS is
configuraed as a standard APRS configuration using a GPS and weather.
The GPS string is changed in the TNC section to add $GPSRPC to
command line 4. That should cover the basic understanding of the
installation.

Here is my problem.

1. My ICON shows up as a School Bus on my laptop, but shows up as a
weather icon in the field. The callsign in APRS has impact on this
and is discussion for another forum.

2. The APRS data (including weather) will not transmit as long as
there is conversation on the 'A' side of the radio. This gets to be a
real problem when in a weather net mode at a watch point. As long as
everyone shuts up on the 'A' side long enough for the Position Report
Rates to be met, everything is fine. If anyone transmits on the 'A'
side during the PRR period, the 'system' will stop transmitting data,
including weather and position reports.

I have tried all kinds of things to rectify the problem. DCD Sense,
configuration changes in APRS etc.

Does anyone have any ideas of things I should be looking for?
What kind of TNC is built into the Kenwood TMD700A and where can I
find all the available options for it?
Has anyone else ever tried to do this?

Re: Cross Band Repeat in packet mode

Michael Virgilio <mikev@...>

If you use the DIGipeat (all caps is the short command) command on the TM-D700 TNC, you can enable the TNC to digipeat regular packet connections (BBS's, keyboard-to-keyboard conversations, etc.) as opposed to Unconnected Information (UI) packets - like APRS packets - which can be turned on and off in the menu of the radio. Then you would just use your Callsign/SSID of the TM-D700 in your connect string on your TH-D7.

i.e. If my TM-D700 is KG4JNA-9, and it is set to DIGIPEAT ON, on my TH-D7 I would connect to a local node using:

c 1foaks via kg4jna-9

and all packets would go through my TM-D700 on their way to 1FOAKS.
