Looking to buy
I tried an FTM-400 and didn't love it so I sold it and got a 710G. The other truck has had a TM-V71A since I got my license but I purchased another FTM-400 thinking I'd give it another shot. Well, it still isn't great. I'm looking for a second 710 to replace the 400.
Anyone have a 710A or G they would like to sell or trade?

But... shouldn't the 710G be able to operate stand-alone and accept a small number of BBS messages without being connected to a computer? I thought it had enough internal memory to store BBS messages. Is there a way to flush the serial buffer when a computer isn't connected? Maybe I misunderstand the BBS ON option.

Re: TNC Buffer (RNR)
Thank you, Pat. I was wondering if XFLOW would be the issue but just as stated on that site, it isn't intuitive. I thought about disconnecting my serial adapter then if that didn't work, toggle XFLOW but hadn't gotten around to it. I'll give it a shot today and see how it responds.
BELOW IS WRONG: In short, XFLOW ON causes the TNC serial port to use hardware flow control. XFLOW OFF tells the TNC serial port to use software flow control. Setting XFLOW ON will allow the TNC to continue responding to incoming connections even though its serial buffer is full (or it just sends serial data and forgets about it; I'm not sure.) My TNC2 in the house has XFLOW set on while the TM-D710G in the truck has XFLOW set off. I'll be setting the 710 XFLOW ON and reporting back. Correct: After reviewing the 710 manual as well as the MFJ 1270B manual, XFLOW OFF uses hardware flow control (RTS). XFLOW ON uses software flow control. That makes more sense.

Has anyone run APRS using a Bionics GSP2 receiver with a TM-D710A mobile? I emailed Bionics to ask if this combination would work, but never got a reply. Thanks - ed, k9ew

Re: External GPS Antenna for TM-D710G ?
On your soft keys, press POS. Now press the right arrow u til you come to the GPS screen with a compass rose on the left and bars on the majority of the screen. This is your signal screen. If you don't get the arrows after pressing POS, your GPS isn't on. Your GPS is on if you see iGPS in the top right corner of the screen.
The 3.5mm jack can be used for an external GPS receiver but not an antenna. I am unaware of any external antenna options.

Unfortunate circumstance. I have purchased a Davis wind vane/anemometer but don't want their electronics for the reason you found. I'll run my own collection and reporting microcontroller.

External GPS Antenna for TM-D710G ?
I, and others for me, solved the WxNow and Weather data issue.
So now I was trying to figure out how strong or IF the D710G is receiving any GPS Sats. I "Think" I have the window open. Its got a Compass Rose then two parallel lines horizontal. On one of those lines, a number and a square pops up sometimes. Then it all goes back to just the two parallel lines. I take this to mean I am not really receiving any GPS Sats with sufficient sig-strength. Upper right of the D710G screen is BCON iG&W . So, that GPS(& Wx) 2.5mm jack on the Control Head ....can I plug an external GPS antenna into that so that the Rig will receive GPS? And, was that screen with the compass-rose, the one that shows Sig-Strength on GPS Sats? My D710G manual, though many pages of foreign languages, did NOT cover the GPS are all to well. The D710G is sitting about a foot from an outside, south facing, window. It is hardly convenient to hold the control-head next to the window panes. -- -- Bob KD7YZ TM-D710GA

How to connect my D710G APRS-Davis 2.5mm 3-pin jack to my Davis VP2 weather station.
I note several stations on my APRSIS32 display who also have a blue Wx symbol.
How to I get the info from the Davis VP2 Console to the Davis-APRS-Wx jack a 2.5mm 3-pin plug ??? My Davis already has an IP Data-Logger ...ethernet to the DSL Modem. So I can't stop using that. I just got off the fone with Davis tech support. It seems I have to buy about 400 bucks worth of a Vue console plus data logger ... then that cable is RS-232 only, coming out of the Vantage Vue console (their low end station). So it still wont go into the Davis. Davis "one upon a time" had WeatherLink for APRS and subsequent cables. According to the nice tech support at Davis, they haven't had that for a while. tnx for reading. -- Bob KD7YZ TM-D710GA

Hello Ron Pariseau via groups.io:
Sunday, November 21, 2021, 8:29:16 AM, you chiseled out: Hi Bob, my GARMIN GPS478C, GARMIN 276C, MAGELLAN SPORTPRO and GARMIN RHINO are all set the WAAS and accuracy set to less than 100 feet! I will try to send you a screen shot if you think that will help later today!Good luck, RonI've discovered that ONLY the MapView of program UISS shows me off in Latitude. Whereas wth my friend KO4JBA who uses a yaesu FT300dm it puts him in Kansas, off Longitude, and his Latitude is golden. So, it's not my d710A ...Also, my APRSIS32 proggy puts me correctly on the map. -- Best regards, Bob KD7YZ EM88LL
