Re: TN-D710E capacitor replacement

Julian

Hi Leo. Tnx for info. I have managed to decode what type of cap is, ceramic multilayer, ±5%, SMD 0402. 56pF, 50V. I have done few trials on a test board and successfully soldered few caps of this size under the microscope using hot air. It's crazy. They are under 1mm I believe. If you see them on the wking table you'd think they are specs of dust... I haven't soldered the TM-D710 one as I have run out of free time and also haven't felt that well recently. Maybe next week.
Unfortunately Kenwood/JVC doesn't make.it easy to decode their part nrs. I would assume, for a trained eye, it's not a problem. With Panasonic for ex, on the other hand, if you ever type one of their part nr in Google you will find a lot of info, specs etc.

Julian,
Have you fixed it yet?
It's a cap that passes IF 455/450kHz to the detector so not really "RF" or a critical value.

TN-D710E capacitor replacement

Julian

Hi, I have manage to successfully change the ceramic filters on my TM-D710E, but I knocked off C509 in the process. It's way too tiny for my soldering skills and tools so, I was wondering if anyone can help (info wise) with a larger replacement. I am not sure what type of capacitor it is, ceramic or RF. Probably ceramic. Service Manual pg 17, part no CC73HCH1H560J (chip C   56pF   J).

TM-D700 Display Firmware

Hello everyone. I am an Italian  ham IW1GK . I have a problem with my TM-D700 G2. Unfortunately it stopped working and I found the cause in the display . I am 99% sure that the defect lies in the display firmware and precisely IC5 AT29C020-90TI. I ordered the ic in kenwood but it came empty (no firmware). Unfortunately I couldn't find anything on the net. I kindly ask if anyone in the group has the firmware to be able to send me and solve the problem. I have the programmer and if others have the same problem I am available to program and send the ic.
I look forward to an answer and wish everyone happy holidays !!

Jess, Assume you checked the power source including possible fuse condition to include fuse holder corrosion.  These rigs are aging, so look for these things first.  If the head is remoted?  Those connections also need checking for corrosion, etc.  Otherwise remove the head, and check for contact corrosion.  Symptoms hint at one or more of these points.   Regards, Phil / K4PO

Did you check the fuse inside of the control head (F902)?

I've attached a file I found in my collection of D700 documents that might be helpful.

Good luck

Still does not work.  I have tried earlier versions of Operation Panel and MCP-2A
Checked Data cable is good but have no audio from TM-D710 feeding EchoLink Sysop.
I believe once MCP full reset after loading TM-D710A Operation Panel firmware V2.15 somehow the menus were rearranged and I do not know why.  Remember my radio did have 923 and 924 besides many other 900s.
Should be able to reverse panel but perhaps MCP is the problem which I have tried earlier MCP versions.  Wasted many hours.  Too bad.  Don't do updates if your radio is still working on Echolink Sysop mode.  73s

Re: TM-D700 powering itself off

Check this to assure OFF condition Peter.  I use that feature on in mobile to prevent accidental battery drain.  Phil / K4PO

AUTOMATIC POWER OFF (APO)
Automatic Power Off is a background function that
monitors whether any buttons or keys have been
pressed, or whether the Tuning control has been turned.
After 3 hours pass with no operations, APO turns OFF
the power. However, 1 minute before the power turns
OFF, “APO” appears and blinks, and a series of warning
tones sound.
Access Menu 1–9–3 (APO) and select “ON”.
Note: If any settings are changed during the 3 hour period while APO is
ON, the timer resets. When you stop changing the settings, the timer
begins counting again from 0.

Touch base with Scott Currie on Winlink. Scott does work for Master Communications in building the kits etc. He helped me get mine to work with my DRA 36.

Check the head cable, mine might turn itself off if I wiggle the cable. I plan to make my own replacement cable.

Radio is APRS mode with 30min TX interval, no GPS attached as POS is known in shack.

I looked around for "Power off" subjects in the list an don't immediately see anyone with the same concern.

Is there a known issue that could be contributing to this?  Radio was purchased in approx. 2006/2007 and used by my father until is passing in 2015.  I've had it in the shack next to my TS-480 since then with no other issues.

I do leave a RT-Systems USB cable attached as I use the radio for WINLINK and that stays attached to the laptop.  Potential issue there?

Any insight would be appreciated!

Re: TM-D700 powering itself off

I had a similar issue years ago, but it was with a D-700 in a truck, with the attendant vibrations.  Fix was re-doing the power connector on the power cable feeding the radio for a tighter connection.

So if  nothing else, I'd look at the power connectors to make sure they are tight and maybe clean their contacts.

Hope this helps

Apparently menu item locations have changed after Operation Panel firmware v2.13 installed.

AUX 522 Remote ID   (was 923),
AUX 523 Remote Answer Back  (was 924)

Have not tested but thought to post these findings.

TM-D710A Operation Panel firmware update problem

I have Kenwood TM-910A radio SN906xxxxx with Panel firmware v2.13

This older firmware was working fine.  Had all Aux 900 menu  items ie 923 REMOTE ID

Today decided to update.  Went on Kenwood website and downloaded Operation Panel firmware 2.15 which installed and did the full reset after.

Now only have 998 and 999 items.  All other 900s are GONE.

So tried to reinstall my v2.13 again but the needed 900 items still GONE.

So tried to install earlier v2.11 but again but the needed 900 items still GONE.

Bottom line is this update has removed Remote ID and Remote answer back needed for Cross band control.

Is there a way to revert my control panel to earlier version?  I have the earlier zip files.
