Re: D700A help with ribbon cable connector
Joseph LaFerla
HI Leo
After a very long wait looking for part numbers and parts, I have finally been able to get the connector soldered in place. I first contacted Kenwood USA who gave me the part number and that I could get it through East Coast Transistor and Parts. I sent the radio to a local repair shop since the connector is smd and very tiny. The repair shop guy tells me that, once the connector was soldered in, the radio immediately powered up and the tnc now works. So it would seem that something in the bootloader goes around looking for each component and will hang until it finds everything. Although it took much longer, especially since I live in Canada, I preferred to wait until the exact replacement part was received rather than getting one from Digikey. I actually bought two connectors and will keep one as spare just in case. Thanks for your help and suggestions to all who provided input. Joe VA3JLF

Anyone know of software to control the TM-D710G?While "not really control", I am using APRSIS32, ONLY the development version please, to interact with the APRS side of D7120GA I own. I mean, unlike using DXLabSuite's 'Commander', to change mode(s) and QRG, APRSIS32 can't do that ... and Commander can't seem to do anything or talk to the D710. And I love thge DxLabSuite stuff. Also, I own Packet-Engine-Pro which reads and decodes the 'External Data Output' of the D710Ga here. That and UISS will allow work through the ISS. But still, it isn't the 'Control' which you are asking about. As I 'mostly' use the D710 for APRS, I am getting along, but would prefer the control too. Prolly, the CAT interface from the Kenwood and the dual-band ops, might make it a nightmare for the overworked programmer of DxLabSuite ... considering the DxLabSuite is freeware. I am a former programmer of intercept and analysis equipment and , in a way, can sympathize with him. The difference was, I was compensated for hours of work ,, hi hi . -- 73 Bob KD7YZ AMSAT LM #901

Good evening Bob -Howdy. Presume you are referring to Sec 4 / Scan as the PDF mentioned? Your I DO have the complete, sectioned, Instruction PDF you mentioned. So after re-looking, I noticed during a Scan that the Step-Size was incorrectly 12.5Kc ... this, it turns out, was programmed into one of the VFO-Screens. Even tho 25KC was in the memories table. So I changed all the VFO-tabs to be 25Khz. Then a form of VFO scan started. Next I notice that I AM on the correct Band ...namely 118MHz band. HOWEVER, a scan starts at 118 and goers as for as 129.975 then restarts at 118.025 again. This appears to mimic a Limit-Memories L0-U0 selection. Since it isn't possible to link all the Limit-Memories, I can't get past a VFO Scan of being tied to Limit-Memories. You worked that one out? There were, for my Locale, two or three frequencies that seemed to be a modulated single tone that was both strong as well as constant. So I tried to split up the limit-memories. In any event, according to VFO-Scan, If I put myself (VFO, on anything in the 118 Band, which ostensibly goes through 136 MHZ, that I should scan 118 to 1`36 ....according to VFO Scan ... right?? cuz it "ain't" doing that. hopefully two memory-tables from my D710 will come through. Re: Unable to make D710GA Group or Program Scan work

Good evening Bob - Coincidently, I just stumbled across the detailed 710 instruction manual on CD that I lost some time back. Mine is an earlier 710A but assume it works the same in Scan mode as the G model. Presume you are referring to Sec 4 / Scan as the PDF mentioned?
Your description suggests you are executing a "MHz scan"? Page "Scan-3 " depicts the somewhat detailed steps for a "Program Scan" using a pre-programmed pair of low to high frequencies (Lx to Ux where x is an integer from 0 to 9). If you don't have this document, happy to send you a copy? 73 MW / N4MEW 904.616.2004

Unable to make D710GA Group or Program Scan work
I am pretty much certain that I have carefully read the Scan section of the D710 PDF.
When I try to scan, all I get is scan through whatever frequency I am on. ....118.5 (from a lower-limit) . I will only see the last of three numerals, blink, and the scan goes through only that MHz range ... I am interested in a L0 through U0, in the Aircraft band L0=118.00 and U0=121.400 I see the "1" then scan thru 121.0 to 121.975'ish then repeat. any help? -- -- Bob KD7YZ TM-D710GA

I use one of three GPS units all interchangeable with my radios,
Only small adjustments to radio setting is necessary to have them work with my TMD 700A(G), THD7A(G) and TM-271A, the setting? Is the baud rate!

I just put a new GPS on my D-700 about 3 months ago.
This is the best Bang for the $. GlobalSat BR-355 BR-355 Serial GPS Receiver. (There is 2 versions, Make sure it is the Serial Version) https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B000VUFGF8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 And this is how I power it. BINZET DC Converter Step Down Regulator 5V Regulated Power Supplies Transformer Converter (5V 3A 15W) https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00J3MHRNO/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Just cut the end off the plug, 4 wires. 5v+, Ground, GPS In, GPS Out. Very low power consumption, I leave it powered 24/7, in my Truck. RX is very sensitive, it has a magnet back on it and I just stuck it on the top of my radio. Locks on the SATS quick. So for $47.54 you can replace your GPS for a Kenwood D-700 N3FLR - Frank

I have NIB GPS-710 and the 24'' extension. Never used. Never got around to replacing my old D700. Boxes opened when first purchased to inspect and have a look at it. Think I paid somewhere around $129 for the GPS unit. Can't recall what I paid for the
extension. I'd let it go for $80.00 iffen you want it...I'll pay the shipping...US Postal money order works for me...
