Unable to make D710GA Group or Program Scan work

KD7YZ Bob

I am pretty much certain that I have carefully read the Scan section of the D710 PDF.

When I try to scan, all I get is scan through whatever frequency I am on. ....118.5 (from a lower-limit) .
I will only see the last of three numerals, blink, and the scan goes through only that MHz range ... I am interested in a L0 through U0, in the Aircraft band L0=118.00 and U0=121.400

I see the "1" then scan thru 121.0 to 121.975'ish then repeat.

any help?

Re: GPS Unit for D710A Correction

I use one of three GPS units all interchangeable with my radios,

  1. Magellan Sport Track
  2. Garmin GPSMAP 478
  3. Garmin Rhino 130

Only small adjustments to radio setting is necessary to have them work with my TMD 700A(G), THD7A(G) and TM-271A, the setting? Is the baud rate!

Correction to my last reply. I listed the wrong GPS. It is the unit with the serial cable.

I just put a new GPS on my D-700 about 3 months ago.
This is the best Bang for the $.
GlobalSat BR-355 BR-355 Serial GPS Receiver.  (There is 2 versions, Make sure it is the Serial Version)
https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B000VUFGF8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

And this is how I power it.
BINZET DC Converter Step Down Regulator 5V Regulated Power Supplies Transformer Converter (5V 3A 15W)
https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00J3MHRNO/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Just cut the end off the plug, 4 wires.
5v+, Ground, GPS In, GPS Out.

Very low power consumption, I leave it powered 24/7, in my Truck.
RX is very sensitive, it has a magnet back on it and I just stuck it on the top of my radio.
Locks on the SATS quick.

So for $47.54 you can replace your GPS for a Kenwood D-700

I have NIB GPS-710 and the 24'' extension.  Never used.  Never got around to replacing my old D700.  Boxes opened when first purchased to inspect and have a look at it.   Think I paid somewhere around $129 for the GPS unit.  Can't recall what I paid for the  extension.   I'd let it go for $80.00 iffen you want it...I'll pay the shipping...US Postal money order works for me...

Would love to have one of the Green Light Labs units or something similar, but those are basically unattainable (unless someone here has one they want to part with).

Hi,

I have always used a Garmin 18x USB GPS Navigator Unit. It is 65$ on Amazon. I also use one on my ICOM IC-7100.

Subject: [TMD700A] GPS Unit for D710A

So Finally transferring my D710 to my new truck, and I am looking for a better solution for the GPS unit. Currently I have a hacked together Magnetic GPS unit that I threw together with a small breadboard to interface with the D710 and provide the needed 5V (small linear regulator). Would love to have one of the Green Light Labs units or something similar, but those are basically unattainable (unless someone here has one they want to part with).

Other than being a slightly better hack, are there any clean solutions readily available?

Thanks

The manual says - Press *[F] (1S)* to turn the transceiver key lock function ON and OFF.
(1) "Also" in Settings [APRS] {600} there is as mentioned by the guys here, "APRS LOCK : OFF (or ON)

(2) If I press "F" briefly I get thee expected. However if I HOLD "F" for more than a second, I see "LOCK"

But in my case, if I HOLD "F" again for more than a second, I get the ubiquitous BEEP and the "LOCK" nomenclature disappears and I have full knobby-control.

So, that functions as desired. maybe verify {600 APRS-LOCK} is DISENGAGED.

The manual says - Press [F] (1S) to turn the transceiver key lock function ON and OFF.

I've tried pressing and holding that button for a range of times with no luck.

The Troubleshooting section has an additional hint about Channel Display mode and recommends - With the transceiver power OFF, press [LOW] + Power ON to exit Channel Display mode.

Again no luck.  Reset is a thought but all the options I found require getting into the menu.  I was even able to access the radio via software and reprogrammed it, hoping it would come out of lock mode.  Nope.  It now only has three memory channels but is still locked.

Thoughts?

Ah-ha! It won't do -0, but will do -1, -2, -3, ....I was wrong about that. All good now!

Oddly, if I do so with N4SRN alone it stores with  Tuning Control knob press, but add a dash zer -0 or dash any digit fails to store. Hmmm....

FOR SALE: TM-D700A
I've been using this mobile in my truck for several years.

Works perfectly.

I want to go with a digital mobile so I want to sell the KenWood.

I have found the original Box! Still looking for the English manual (have a PDF version available.)

The Spanish and French language manuals are pristine - they were in the box.

For the right price I can also include a Garmin Nuvi 350NA GPS that will display APRS stations.

(I have the box for the Nuvi GPS also.)

I've downloaded current maps to the Garmin Nuvi 350 and hooked it up to the TM-D700 - worked great.

$350.00 radio only.  $375 with the GPS and data cable.

Shipping and insurance at your cost.

If you're interested (and close by,) you can come see it in my truck before I dismount it for sale.

When you complete the NN4SRN-0 entry into the Option 600 My Call Sign field, you must press the Tuning Control Knob (large knob on lower left of head unit)

To place the completed call sign into memory.

Hope this helps

I'm stuck at the same point.

I've entered my callsign in APRS but cannot figure out what to press to get it to save. rather than exit w/o saving. My blinking cursor is on the space after N4SRN-0. Pressing the Tune Control knob in just makes a hi-beep.

Thanks for this.  I am still waiting for Kenwood to send me two of their connectors, supposedly arriving from Japan.  It would be really good if a non-Kenwood source is found for spare parts.  Once I receive the connectors, I am going to ship the D700 to Innovative Circuits, my repair shop, who is waiting for it.  Hopefully it will be an easy fix to mount the connector.

I will post results.

I was wrong, the connector pitch is 0.5mm.
I got it wrong because half the pins (13) are on one side and the other 13 are on the other.  And the spacing between the PCB pin pads is 1.00mm.  I got the 1.00mm pitch connectors from Farnell and, of course, they are huge!
I have re-ordered 26 way 0.5mm pitch connectors - will let you know how it goes.
