Re: TMD710GA receive messages aprs

Dennis Yard

I just had this problem with my TH-D74 last week.

Seems I had turned on all the message filters and all incoming messages were being filtered out.

See Menu #609 Packet Filter.

Thank You Lynn very much.
Looks like the GlobalSat BR-355 serial GPS best bang for the Buck.
Don't need anything fancy, it just needs to talk to the radio.
Most likely more sensitive than the old GPS-35 with faster acquire time,
and even less power consumption, and much smaller.
I did order it and a cheap voltage converter to make it work.
All Total about $50, about half of what I was expecting.
That will get my APRS working again. Currently have my location locked on my home address.
Thanks

Anyone know the part number for the final transistors! Also any idea of other things that cause no transmit? Maybe a service center?

Lynn (D) - KJ4ERJ -  your statement that gps connects via "DB9 to the D700"

The gps here connects to the TM-D700 with a 2.5 mm stereo plug.

Can you verify your connection?

Hi Lee/Rick,

The manual on mods.dk is not covering my qeustion due the 710a has no intern GPS so you don't have too choose.
The 710GE has a intern GPS and a port so you can choose but how.... i searched the manual but i can't find it.

Thanks for reply !

Re: Best cable for DATA use?

Mike Hickerson <w0mbh@...>

Hay Guys
As a follow up.  When getting ready to do a firmware up date, use what ever program you use for the radio, read the radio and then minimize that program.
Then follow the instructions to update the radio/control head.  Then you will be instructed to "RESET" the radio to its original factory settings.  THEN reinstall
the reading you just did and viola your radio is now updated and back to what you had all your settings at.
I have used this method for multiple D710G's for myself and friends who have the D710's.  Works every time.
There have been firmware updates for both the radio AND the control head for the TNC.  So it is best to have two of those USB-K5G cables.

Re: Best cable for DATA use?

Mike Hickerson <w0mbh@...>

Hi Guys
Hey The RT System cable the USB K5G cable can be used for programming the radio using what ever program you want.  AND it can be used for DATA
by plugging it into the control head where the TNC is located.  So if you have two of those cables, like I have, then you can use the computer for data and
programming the radio at the same time as the computer will assign different com ports to each cable.  However you can use one ONE data program at a time.
Data includes, APRS, PACKET, WINLINK et all.  The same cable connected to the radio deck also will handle any firm ware updates offered by Kenwood.
So it is a multi purpose cable and well worth the money

Hi,

You can select the external GPS port under the APRS menu #602

That is the only place I see it.

Hello all,

I looking for a servicedoc for a Kenwood TMD710GE/A , i looked at mods.dk but only the servicedoc for the TMD710E/A is there , not the G version.
Can someone help me with that ?

I have some sensitivityisseus with the buildin GPS and want to search for the partnumber.
Can anyone help me how to select the ext. GPS port ?
I looked into the menu but i can't find the setting ;-(

Thanks in advance !

Maybe a message to Kenwood Service department and ask the parts guy and maybe they will check both models and see if they are the same or tell you what makes the difference . If it is just slightly different such as the software then you would probably be good to go with the manual from ModsDK. Just ask away, might get lucky. Good luck fixing your rig. Please let us know what happens for others, myself included, to know .
