Are you trying to control the radio through the mic? I keep hitting the switch on the back of the mike disabling the keypad and the contols I use it for.  Also check to make sure the mic plug is connected all the way.  Silly I know but it happens.

Manual page 67.  Press the f key then  mhz (meaning the frequency dial knob, press down not turning it).
Or mhz (see above) and power on for all lock. Works as a toggle switch.

Unlocking TMD-700AG & Software

WD8ARZ <wd8arz@...>

Hello Leoanrd , now that you have the unlocking information per your
request by Yono YD0NXX , here is a program that works well with that radio.
-------------------------------
The program detailed below is no longer available by the author. It may
have gone into the public domain. Software exists to register the
program with your name and call. Google may still provide sources for
the program, and the program to register it.

Link700 is a program that will allow users of Kenwood transceivers that
support computer data transfer to download all the data settings and
memories of their radio, edit and modify data, upload the data, and save
settings to a disk file.

Features:

* Support for TH-D7, TM-D700 , TM-G707, TH-F6/7, TS-480 and TS-2000
radios.
* Multiple "profiles" may be opened at a time. Makes it easy to
duplicate TH-D7 and TM-D700 memories files in to each other. Same
for TS-480 and TS-2000.
* "Smart Upload" feature. Keeps track of data you have modified and
allows you to upload only the data that has changed, a real time saver.
* Data in menus are organized in the same order as in the radio menus,
so data fields are easy to find.
* Cut-n-paste blocks of channels. You can move frequencies around
within the channel space of the radio -or- copy to another profile.
You can even copy from one type of radio to another, e.g. from a
TH-D7 to a TM-D700, or vice versa.
* Drag-n-drop channel copying.
* Sort blocks of channels by frequency or name.
* Import frequencies from ARRL's "Travel Plus for Repeaters"*.
* Edit a file from "Travel Plus for Repeaters"*.
* "Quick" Time Set for TM-D700
* "Quick Message". Type in an APRS message and send it to the radio(
TM-D700 and TH-D7).

Press the F1 button (the one just to the right of the big knob on the left ), then press that big knob.

That'll unlock the radio.

Re: APRS map display options with ipad

Another option is to get one of the Microsoft Surface tablets (except for the RT) whcih run standard Windows, support normal hardware, and has a standard sized USB Type A port on the side (as well as Bluetooth, WiFi and touchscreen).  You can run the desktop version of APRSISCE or you could reformat it and install Linux.

The older Surface 2 should have a desirable price range now that the Surface 4 has been announced (and of course the Surface 3 has been out for some time).

Re: APRS map display options with ipad

Hmmm. if you had a Windows CE machine, the answer would be to use the free program from APRSIS32CE author, but you would have to have downloaded the OSM maps from use on the internet.

Alas, I only have a Kindle tablet, but have not hacked that to see how that would work.

Hi to everybody

I have the same issue on my TM-D700E, the time stamp goes to 31:30 !!!!!!
I think that the only problem that I can have is that the Li-Ion battery is definitely died , considering that my D700 have about 10year !

But it is strange that the time stamp become crazy also if the power supply is not turned off .
I wanto to try to change the battery, could you please confim that it is a VL1220 panasonic ?

Re: Operator Abuse of Modes / Frequencies

Chris Quirk

Fcc has /had no interest and did not consider the willful interference to be an issue as the source of interference was 20 miles away. Myself and several others worked the system and the system failed. If you follow the FCC logs you can see that they go after people when the behavior is outrageous or interference with another type of comms such as LMR. Even then offenders with little fear of the FCC continue even after they have been notified that they are in violation.
Sky commander and other such systems can be setup on lightly used channels and not interfere as you suggest with out a problem  From: "'Jeff Dugas (Mobile)' N5TEV@CompuServe.com [TMD700A]" <TMD700A@yahoogroups.com

That's too bad. Sky Commander does "repeat" signals from one channel to another, and if someone is going to set it up on a PERMANENT basis, then it should be classified as a repeater and be coordinated. For a temporary setup which
does not conflict with others' operations, not so much.

Sounds like the first steps have been exhausted, and a complaint of willful interference to the output of a coordinated repeater should be sent to the FCC enforcement bureau. I guess at some point, you do have to send in the SWAT team.

Sky commander and similar similar are not classified as repeaters and as such do not require coordination.

Since the "offender" is operating a repeater of sorts, he should really have his operations coordinated. Has anyone contacted the "offender" to educate and assist? Email, letter, or gone up to his house and knocked on his door with a "we're here and want to help" positive attitude?

Normally when there is a conflict, the first step should be an attempt of direct dialog, versus immediately "calling the law", sending in SWAT, etc. Issues are best resolved at the lowest level.

As posted originally, the offending ham is not "using" the repeater, he is transmitting on the output frequency of the repeater using his Sky Command set-up, according to the original poster.

Thus the repeater is not being "keyed-up," but legitimate QSOs through the repeater are being interfered with by the offender transmitting on the output frequency of the repeater.

Of course, the repeater Trustee could still complain, but apparently complaints are being ignored.

If the repeater owner has notified the offending user that he is no longer allowed to use the machine and the problem persists, then the user is in violation of the law.  Sure, there are few teeth to the law, but the FCC has been known to take action in such instances in recent times.

The impacted repeater is part of a volunteer program and paid for by a local agency. Volunteers are really put off by this behavior and we have spent more money moving to non ham frequencies to get around the problem.

To me is sounds like the
offender is just be unrealistic, and being a problem just to
be a problem....  It is this crazy chest thumping that
gives new hams a bad taste!  What does it take a few
seconds to spin his VFO output frequency?

no one is doing anything about the problem and tells me it

So all you

for the rest of us that are trying to use the same spectrum

reduces the coverage of the coordinated repeater to less
than 5 miles.
Why this is allowed

That's too bad. Sky Commander does "repeat" signals from one channel to another, and if someone is going to set it up on a PERMANENT basis, then it should be classified as a repeater and be coordinated. For a temporary setup which
does not conflict with others' operations, not so much.

Sounds like the first steps have been exhausted, and a complaint of willful interference to the output of a coordinated repeater should be sent to the FCC enforcement bureau. I guess at some point, you do have to send in the SWAT team.

He was contacted in person and notified by mail. As you suggest starting with a positive approach of finding a simple remedy such as moving his system to a different frequency was never an option as he felt he was not doing anything wrong. Apparently many people agree with him by the lack of action taken.

Not really chest thumping offender knows nothing will happen and does not care really simple. He was on vacation for 2 weeks last year and left the system up and running the whole time.

At the end of the day
no one is doing anything about the problem and tells me it
is all legal as long as they ID every 10
minutes.
So all you
folks that live in metro areas that tie up 2 meter channels
with hours of HF traffic consider the problems this causes
for the rest of us that are trying to use the same spectrum
for its intended purpose. Sky commander and other similar
devices tie up frequencies for hours with no breaks
rebroadcasting comms from other channels. In my case the Sky
command broadcast covers a 20 mile radius and effectively
reduces the coverage of the coordinated repeater to less
than 5 miles.
Why this is allowed
on amateur is a mystery to me.

Well surely if it's aco-ordinated repeater
you have some recourse with the fcc ?

That has nothing to do with the features and operations
specific to actually getting SkyCommand functional.

Sky command is really great at monopolizing frequencies
and wasting spectrum. They have been a constant source of
problems in our area as the system does not monitor the

a vhf frequency. Some folks have them at high elevations so
they can be heard for many miles. We have one station 20
miles away that is using the output frequency of our
repeater. The user could care less and he is not the only
one in the area that causes problems.

Yeah we are a big fan of them here

Re: Operator Abuse of Modes / Frequencies

Chris Quirk

He was contacted in person and notified by mail. As you suggest starting with a positive approach of finding a simple remedy such as moving his system to a different frequency was never an option as he felt he was not doing anything wrong. Apparently many people agree with him by the lack of action taken.

Not really chest thumping offender knows nothing will happen and does not care really simple. He was on vacation for 2 weeks last year and left the system up and running the whole time.
