Subject:[TMD700A] APRS map display options with ipad

I am currently doing a new install of a tmd710g in my pickup.

I was hoping to use an iPad mini I had lying around for my map display. Has anyone found a cable/app configuration for accomplishing this?

Make sure your power supply is at 13.8 volts and the antenna output is terminated into a resistive load.
Also check the crimp connections on all the fuses. Seen several develop a resistance and get warm after a qso.
That causes a lower voltage and lower watts output. I re-soldered all my fuse crimp connections and my power supply is directly
to a fused connection to the car battery + and -.
My wattage on 2 mtr goes down to 30 watts with the engine not running.

Recommended Kenwood Service Center/Repair Shop for TM-D700A

Fri Jul24,2015 5:12pm (PDT) . Posted by:

"LARRY J. FORD" lford1951

I think I need to send my Kenwood TM-D700A in for service, as I'm
getting lower than rated output on both VHF (max of 35-40 watts)
and UHF (max 10 watts) on the "High" power output setting.

I suspect, given the age of the unit (bought new about 15-16
years ago) the PA output transistors may be getting a bit "soft"
or there's another issue.

All my HF gear is ICOM, and I definitely know what shop to send
my ICOM gear to, but I haven't a clue as to the "Good, Bad, and
the Ugly" when it comes to Kenwood shops.

Any recommendations for repairs on the Kenwood TM-D700A? (Or,
conversely, shops to avoid, in which case feel free to contact me
off-line at K4AEC@...).

Thanks in advance.

Larry,

I have used Kenwood's authorized service center in Virginia Beach, VA with good results. A couple of times. They have a few service centers but i have experience with only this one location.

Good luck.

Thank you.    It is one of several papers I looked for when I got interested in something, but couldn't find, so I wrote them.   It's a curse at times...  (;-)

It I got an email reporting a typo and uploaded it back here and on the D7 Files area.

BTW.  If you find any section that is difficult to understand please let me know and we can work to make it better.  I did my best to make it easier to understand than other older things on the Net.  APRS isn't plug-n-play and taks lots of understanding.

Curious what did you pay for it?  I am also looking for one for my D700a that the control head went bell up and is not repairable. So if another one appears I would be interested.

So there's no mistake, My last info for Memory Groups was for trhe D710.

In essence, the first of the three Memory numbers *IS* the Group number.

Re: setting up memory groups

Mike,

The group that a frequency is in is determined by the Memory Number you store it in , when you store the frequency.

Example.

Around home, let's say you store those frequencies in Memories 00-99.  These are now in Group "0".  Around Home, you do Group Scan on Group "0" by selecting one of those Memories ( 0-99) and Start Scan.

When you travel to area "A", lets say that you store those frequencies in Memory Numbers 500-599.  These are now in Group "5"

I picked those so if you have more than 100 frequencies in your home area.  In that case, you can put more Home Area frequencies in group 1 in Memories 100-199.  Then, you can LINK Groups "0" and "1" and all 200 "home" area frequencies are scanned together (0-199).

Hope this helps.

Kenwood has a different approach to memory groups - they are determined while saving memories, not after the fact. So, any frequencies you save to memory channel numbers 0 through 99 will automatically be in Group 0, those saved to memory channels 100-199 will be in Group 1 and so on. With the recent demise of my GPS,  I am looking at using my 700 as a base station,  and getting a 710.  Is their someone that has both that would be willing to contact me off list?  I am especially interested if it is scratch and snip capable as the 700 was.

Sometimes you can trick it.  159.2025 may fall into one of the frequencies that work with the 6.25 kHz step size.  Switch to that step size and then try programming again.

And last time I checked this group was for BOTH the d700 and D710. At
least that is what it shows on the group home page.
