Re: Serial cable question

Hi,

I would have to check my D700 but I am sure the D700 serial cable plug is a DB-9 Serial Male and most computers today (including USB to Serial Adapters) use DB-9 Male. What he needs is a DB-9 Female to Female straight thru cable.

Now if he got a Null Modem Cable (like he says he bought), he can still use it if he buys a crossover adapter making sure that both ends end in Female DB-9. A simple Gender Bender only changes the end of a DB-9 Male to a DB-9 Female (or any other kind of Male/Female plug).

But I personally prefer the approach of using only the Straight Thru cable, remember KISS (and not the KISS of TNC's).

He should be able to get any of those cables and/or adapters in stores that carry computer cable accessories; like Radio Shack, CompUSA/Tigerdirect, Blackbox or any other (either brick and mortar store or internet store).

Good luck and thanks,

Francisco
