2021 TLARC dues

David Andrews

Good morning,

At the November TLARC meeting, the membership voted to increase our annual dues to $20. If you were one of the lucky few who paid before the meeting, you’re all set. The rest of us send our checks (while the thought is fresh in our heads) to Treasurer Brad Berger, 191 Dudala Way, Loudon, TN 37774-6813. After Jan. 1, 2021 dues should be mailed to George Sifnotis 100 Skiatook Way, Loudon, TN 37774-2132  zapatel@...

I’m mailing mine today so I won’t forget.

Thanks,

David Andrews, N1ESK

REMINDER — and PLEASE forward this to all your contesting friends, especially contest and/or DX clubs:

Date:  Thursday, November 19, 2020 (even though the meeting begins on Nov 20 according to Zulu time)
Time:  7:30 PM Central STANDARD Time.   That will be 0130z.
Speaker:  Steve Nichols  G0KYA
Topic:  Using the Latest Propagation Prediction Tools
Description:  We’ve come a long way from the old days of having to run propagation prediction programs on Windows PCs. Steve will look at how to use VOACAP Online and the newer ITURHFPROP (Proppy and Predtest) tools to tailor your predictions to your particular station.
You will learn how you can create HF predictions to 28 major DX entities in just seconds.
Also, we shall examine some of the other tools the Radio Society of Great Britain (RSGB) have developed, such as propquest.co.uk, which shows the real-time critical frequency and what bands are likely to be open.
Steve is the chairman of the RSGB’s Propagation Studies Committee and has been licensed for nearly 40 years. He also holds the US extra class license AB8ZV

We are extremely excited to continue the entirely new flavor to our Deep Dixie CC Zoom™ Learning Series programs!   We welcome another UK speaker this time!
Our speaker for this next session on Thursday evening, November 19, is Steve Nichols  G0KYA, from Norwich, Norfolk, United Kingdom.  So, please pass the word far and wide.  All contesters are welcome!

About our speaker:  Steve Nichols  G0KYA
Steve Nichols is an author, freelance journalist, photographer and communicator specialising in aerospace, science and technology. See www.infotechcomms.co.uk for more details.  Currently, he functions as the Chair of the RSGB Propagation Studies Committee, so we are privileged to have a genuine authority leading us tonight.
As a veteran author of multiple books available for purchase through both RSGB and ARRL, Steve has extensive experience writing and speaking on topics such as propagation, antenna design, and financial fitness matters.  And, his hobbies include not only amateur radio and photography, but also classic cars and Caribbean cruising.  For a hint of Steve’s work on propagation, visit his blog at http://g0kya.blogspot.com

PLEASE invite all radio enthusiasts to join us for this presentation!  Pass the word around.  Post it to all your club members.

ARLB034 Clear Frequencies Requested for Caribbean Hurricane Emergency
Traffic

Stations handling emergency traffic during the response to Category
5 Hurricane Iota, just off the eastern coast of Nicaragua, are requesting
clear frequencies.

Radio amateurs not involved in the emergency response are asked to avoid
(plus/minus 5 KHz) the Hurricane Watch Net (HWN) and WX4NHC (National
Hurricane Center) frequencies of 14.325 and 7.268 MHz, as well as a Honduran
emergency net operation on 7.180 MHz (net control station is HR1JFA), and a
Nicaraguan emergency net operating on
7.098 MHz.

With maximum sustained winds of 160 MPH, Hurricane Iota is expected to bring
catastrophic winds, life-threatening storm surge, and torrential rainfall to
Central America.

Be sure to mark your calendar for the radio and Zoom nets tomorrow night. Brad KM4OJK will be the Net Control Station, with Sam KV4XY logging.

The monthly TLARC meeting will be held next Wednesday, November 18, once again at the Toqua Pavilion. The meeting will begin at 7:00; you’re welcome to join some familiar (and new) faces for dinner at the Toqua restaurant before the meeting, probably sitting at 6:00.

The November meeting is one of those important meetings of the year. We will elect our new officers for 2021, receive the Financial Review Committee report, and announce plans for our holiday get together. There will also be an important discussion regarding the future of the local 442.100 MHz repeater. As the weather is starting to turn, we might not meet in person again until spring, so this might be your last chance for a while to eyeball your fellow TLARCers. Bring a jacket in case it’s a little chilly.

I look forward to seeing and hearing everyone tomorrow night.
