Re: Another ARC's Take on Field Day
Jim Anderson <jimk0rgi@...>
Nice video and congrats to your friend! I noticed a familiar call in the credits - Tim N9PUZ. We used to frequently run across each other at Four Days in May in Dayton at Hamvention. Our wives are both quilters who spent time together at the alternative activities part of FDIM, so we had a couple of things in common. The last time I saw him was at Ozarkcon in Branson more than 5 years ago. I'm glad to see that he's still alive and kicking! If you know Tim, please give him my regards. He'd likely only remember me from my former call of KA9VHG. 73, Jim - K0RGI

Another ARC's Take on Field Day
A very good friend of mine in Springfield, IL just got his Tech and General license the same day. He is officially KD9PPH. You all know that I'm not one to brag, but I do have to give myself a bit of credit for getting Ken to go to club meetings, study and take his tests. It won't be long before he has his Extra, but getting a HF setup may take a while.
His club has a nice website and I thought you'd like to see what they have to say about Field Day this screwy year. It may be a bit long, but it's well produced. Their club call sign K9DUA has the same last 3 characters as ours. KN4DUA https://svrc.org/article/ www.svrc.org

This hamfest will be a little different than most, no dealers. At most hamfests, there are dealers that show up with new equipment. You can find towers, antennas, radios, coax, connectors, computers, etc. Its like a yard sale for ham radio, and then some. Here is a link to most of the hamfests around our area. http://mcminnarc.com/festcalendar.html Tim Montgomery

FW: Upcoming W4OLB Repeater Change
---------- Forwarded message --------- From: Tom Jenkinson <ctjenk@...> Date: Tue, Jun 16, 2020 at 4:07 PM Subject: FW: Upcoming W4OLB Repeater Change To: Tom Jenkinson <ctjenk@...>
From: Dave Kaun <dhkaun@...>
Sent: Tuesday, June 16, 2020 4:00 PM To: Tom Jenkinson WB7TLW <ctjenk@...>; BOB WILSON <bobwilson3810@...> Cc: Kurt Meltzer KC4NX <mre1032@...> Subject: Upcoming W4OLB Repeater Change
Please be aware SMARC will be making a slight change to the repeater in the next week or so. For most of you there will not be any changes in programming as the frequency of the repeater will not change nor will the required 100Hz tone for access.
For some, who make use of the CTCSS (PL) tone squelch, the programming of your radio will be required. The repeater will soon be transmitting a 167.9 Hz CTCSS tone vs. the present 100 Hz. If you don't use this feature then there is nothing you need to do. If however you do use it then you will need to make this change.
So, why is this necessary? Many of you have heard the offending noise on the repeater. it is coming from a distant repeater and this offending signal holds the repeater transmitter in transmit during the end of transmission tail. The W4OLB repeater makes use of the tone to activate the patch to the KK4XA DMR repeater. Also, some use it it control noise at their location, such as myself from my solar system.

tlarc weekly net and log volunteers
Good Day All,
TLARC is currently canvasing for club members to volunteer to take the role of Net Control Station (NCS) on Wednesdays at 1900 hours local. No fear, please find the attached TLARC NCS Preamble. This is a fun and exciting role to initiate familiarity with being a NCS, Communication for regulated operation, emergency operation and other HAM related topics.
Also, volunteers to log for a Net are also needed on a weekly basis. Again, no fear, all who have served as a NCS or logger will help in anyway. There is also an online program to log through, this auto fills the information once a call sign is input.
I would ask that volunteers please respond to me at KK6OKU@... with available dates you could volunteer for and I shall endeavor to complete a calendar to let all know what dates assignments would be for both logging and NCS.
As unforeseen circumstances arise, it is encouraged to ask for swap days from the list of fellow volunteers (once completed) for the benefit of issues that arise and may prevent you from completing a NCS controlled net or log. There is always someone out there to help.
Thank you all for your help and support.
