Keeping everyone on the same page...

David Andrews

Good evening,

I received word that there may be someone confused as to the plans for tomorrow evening. The pre-meeting dinner will be at the Z Fish House, 846 Mulberry Street in Loudon at 5:00. This gives time to eat and shoot the breeze, with time to travel to the Chota Rec Center for the meeting at 7:00 PM. The meeting is NOT at Z Fish House.

This is the final meeting before Field Day, which is this weekend. Come to the meeting top get the latest updates on operating schedule, set-up and breakdown times, and all the other tidbits and details.

So far, we’ve received word that the following folks will be in attendance:

David Andrews

Jeanette Andrews

David Schoenherr

Mike Wagner

Gidget Wagner (hopefully)

Juan Lopez

Tom Sullivan

If you’re not on this list and wish to join us, just shoot me an email (n1esk1@...) and I’ll add you to the list.

See you tomorrow,

David Andrews, N1ESK

Field Day OPERATING SCHEDULE Sign-up ... We need YOU!

George N2APB

Hey all,
Field day is just around the corner now and we're looking for people to sign-up for some Operating timeslots.

We will have THREE stations set up and in operation ... and you'll be able to select as many 2-hour slots in ANY station you'd like, and on ANY day (Saturday or Sunday) that you'd like.  And you'll even have a chance to be the Primary op (on the air), the Secondary Op (logging assist), or an Observer (to learn "how it's done)!

STATION 1
Mode: SSB, 40-thru-10 mtrs, max two operators, 1 logging + 1 calling. Antenna is an Alpha Delta inverted using a tower along the fence line.

STATION 2
Modes: CW + Digital (PSK31 and RTTY). This station will have two antennas.  This rig will be remote control operated from the ARES shelter to an inside position. 2 operators max, same as station 1
     Antenna 1 = CushCraft A4S Tribander (10, 15, 20 meters)
Antenna 2 = Carolina Windom for 40-thru-160 mtrs

STATION 3
Mode: SSB, focused on 15 meters through 6 meters and includes 2 meters. This operating position will also have Satellite portable operations available to make contacts as LEO's come over the horizon. This station operating position will remain outdoors. This station will have 2 yagi antennas and a dipole.

==> Please visit our OP SKED website (http://www.tlarc.org/Events/FD%202019/OpSked.html) and pick some Schedule times that you wish to operate, log or observe ... based on your abilities in CW, Phone or Digital or your desire to assist in these areas.

Once you have some timeslots picked out, email those SLOT numbers to George  and he'll update the availability charts right away.

(For example, if you want to be the Primary Op on STATION 1 on Saturday at from 6-8pm, you would send SLOT 7 to George

Take as many slots as you'd like, but please be sure to keep your commitment.

And thanks in advance for helping us to have a great Field Day 2019 presence this year!

Old Ham Magazines

Brad (the Voice of the Village) Berger

TLARC'ers,

A friend of mine will be traveling in July to jolly ol' England to visit a buddy of his who's a ham. His English friend asked him to bring some amateur radio magazines for him to peruse. If you have any extra magazines laying around that you don't need, please bring them to the meeting for me. It doesn't matter to him if it's new or old as long as it has a good article or two in it.

I'm not asking you bring 1,000 magazines from your collection over the last 30 years. Just bring a few good ones that he will appreciate.

Thank you,

Brad

Fellow TLARCers.  I’m cleaning out my shack and have a few items to sell.  I’m planning to be at the Knoxville Hamfest this Saturday but thought I’d see if any club members might be interested first.  For more info just go to https://k4zrp.wordpress.com/about/.

If you haven’t washed away yet, then check your calendar to make sure you’ve marked off Wednesday, June 19th for the next TLARC monthly meeting, preceded by dinner at 5:00 PM (note the time) at Z Fish House, 846 Mulberry St, Loudon with the clubs most colorful personalities. While you’re at your calendar, you might want to make certain you have June 22 & 23 circled in red ink. It’s Field Day 2019! Like Christmas, Hamcation or Dayton, it only comes around once a year. Are you ready?

See you soon,

A QRP Field Ops Adventure, by K0RGI and N2APB

George N2APB

Jim K0RGI and George N2APB took to the field on a fine and sunny 83-deg, low-humidity day last Saturday ... Why?  Because we could, and it was the most glorious spring day we've had yet this year!

We went to the TVA Park on Tellico Lake, located near on the boat launch area one normally sees on the right when you turn left onto the ramp heading to Maryville. Birds in-air, boats lazily en route to some swimming hole, and a mini-park with picnic benches, parties in progress under shelters and kids splashing in a roped-off area.

We had our usual antennas unobtrusively set up (Jim's PAC-12 mini vertical and George's 4'-diameter magnetic loop) and nobody bothered us.  Not even bugs!  Over the course of about several hours we made a good handful of contacts, ranging from PA to CA (and even an LA8 in Czechoslovakia!), then we packed up to go home. A fine outing it was indeed!

George N2APB & Jim K0RGI

PS:  Be sure to see the photos on the TLARC website to get a flavor that only scratches the surface of our outing.  There's even a short video ... click on it to download "QRP_Heaven.mov" to your local computer's Download folder, then double-click the  file to play it.

DAVID,
I greatly regret to hear of your dad’s illness & death. I’ve been out of the loop & must become more involved & cognizant of my fellow  hams issues.
Please accept my deepest condolences for you & your family’s loss.

Great videos, David - thanks for sharing them. For those who had attended at Hara, you'll appreciate a comment I saw on another list that the restrooms are now probably cleaner than they've ever been.

For those who had experienced Dayton at the old Hara Arena, enjoy the video entitled “Don’t cry for me Hara Arena”.

On Memorial Day, an EF-3 tornado severely damaged the Hara Arena as it passed through the Dayton , Ohio area. From the looks of it, demolition may now be in order.
