SDR Ham Radio Receiver Kit
To All,
Elektor magazine has just reduced the price of their Software Defined Radio (SDR) kit by 24%, it is now $61.12. The kit includes an SDR USB dongle, dipole antenna, cables, and the book Raspberry PI for Radio Amateurs. https://www.elektor.com/elektor-raspberry-pi-rtl-sdr-kit Receive radio signals between 500 kHz to 1.75 GHz from stations utilizing different bands including MW/SW/LW broadcast, ham radio, utility, air traffic control, etc. Check the link above for additional details. This makes for a very inexpensive radio receiver. This book is aimed at amateur radio enthusiasts, electronic engineering students, and anyone interested in learning to use the Raspberry Pi to build electronic projects. The book is suitable for the full range of beginners through old hands at ham radio. Step-by-step installation of the operating system is described with many details on the commonly used Linux commands. Some knowledge of the Python programming language is required to understand and modify the projects given in the book. Example projects developed in the book include a station clock, waveform generation, transistor amplifier design, active filter design, Morse code exerciser, frequency counter, RF meter, and more. The block diagram, circuit diagram, and complete Python program listings are given for each project, including the full description of the projects. Besides wide coverage of RTL-SDR for amateur radio, the book also summarizes the installation and use instructions of the following ham radio programs and software tools you can run on your Raspberry Pi: TWCLOCK, Klog, Gpredict, FLDIGI, DIRE WOLF, xcwcp, QSSTV, LinPsk, Ham Clock, CHIRP, xastir, and CQRLOG. Concert tickets available
David Andrews
Hey folks,
N1REB and I had plans to attend the Joss Stone & Corinne Bailey Rae concert at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville on Thursday, February 3rd, but our plans have changed. We can no longer attend.
This is certain to be a great evening, and we are disappointed we can’t attend, but since we now have the tickets, we decided to turn this into something positive. We are making these tickets available to any TLARC members in exchange for a donation (any amount you deem fair) to the TLARC Repeater Fund. If we don’t hear from anyone by this Thursday night, we’ll pursue other options. First come, first served, so if you’re interested, drop me an email at n1esk1@....
Thanks!!
David N1ESK

Re: INVITATION/REMINDER: TLARC Monthly Meeting, Wednesday, January 19, 2022
Joyce Tarbell
I plan on bringing a Mexican wedding cake (pineapple in the batter and cream cheese frosting). Since we have been having a large group at our meetings, someone else may want to bring something to supplement it. See you tonight. Angela, you have to come, since there will be food. Joyce Tarbell

Angela, There are no pre-meeting dinner plans this month. Sorry! The Admin Team has focused mainly on transition items to date but will make sure we coordinate a pre-meal and a program presentation for the February General Meeting. Thank you for asking! 73, Chuck N4CSF
Are there plans for nutritional sustenance before the meeting? v/r,
Chuck

QST Article on Mountain-Topping Ops
Chuck Ferguson - N4CSF
Good morning! As many of you may already know, the Feb 2022 edition of QST has a really interesting article about mountain-topping ops. It features McMinn County ARC (Athens) members, who organize mountain-top field events in and around the Great Smoky Mountains. They work a variety of FM & HF phone bands, POTA, SOTA, as well as APRS and other digital modes. Of course, mountain tops provide some of the most effective antenna “masts” and lines of sight around. The article shows you can have lots of fun running field ops events while honing your portable system skills and gaining valuable EMCOMM working experience.
