2021 TLARC Holiday Party

Fellow Club Members,

The end of the year is drawing near, and now is the time to be making plans for our year end holiday party. This year, we will be having our get together at Grain Bin Commodities, 5209 Holt Road, Sweetwater, Tennessee 37874 on Saturday, December 4, 2021 at 5:30pm. This venue offers farm to table dining.

Our menu will be as follows:

 Smoked Chicken

Lasagna

Green Bean Casserole with bacon

Loaded twice baked creamed potatoes

Tossed salad

Caesar salad

Garlic bread/garlic knotts

A variety of appetizers

A variety of individual desserts

Sweet and unsweet tea

An assortment of soft drinks will be available

Water

This will be served buffet style.

We have talked to the owners in advance about having alcohol at the venue. Please note, that if you want an alcoholic beverage before, with your meal, or afterwards, you must bring your own glasses, openers and beverages. They are NOT ALLOWED to open, pour or serve. And you MUST take your bottles/containers home with you. Also, they WILL NOT have any set-ups!

We hope you and your spouse/significant other will join us in celebrating the end of a great year. We do ask that you let us know how many in your party will be coming, so we can make sure we have enough food for everyone. We MUST have a count no later than November 15, 2021.

To RSVP, please reply to me at k4mjf.1@... or call 865-567-1859 and leave a message.

I look forward to seeing you there!

 Best regards,

Michael J. Foley, K4MJF

TLARC Members,

We are looking for Club volunteers to man booths and provide communication support this Saturday morning at the Lenoir City Car Show and Fall Street Festival.  Our primary responsibilities include manning the TLARC booth, serving as liaison to Lenoir City Civitan Club members, who will be positioning show vehicles for the car show, and directing food vendors to their respective sites. Volunteers will assemble at 8:00am EDT for a pre-event briefing at the TLARC Net Control Station (NCS), by the stage at East Broadway (US11) and North A Street.  Our communication duties should end between 10:00am EDT and 10:30am EDT.  Please see the attached flyer and ICS Form 201 Incident Briefing for further details.

Bring your HT and serve a couple hours Saturday morning, or stay until the event ends at 2:00pm EDT.  TLARC has purchased booth space and has invited both the Smoky Mountain and Monroe County Amateur Radio Clubs (SMARC and MARC) to partner with us on this effort.  This is a great opportunity to assist the community and provide information to the public about the amateur radio service.  TLARC will provide an operational remote station to demonstrate portable radio operations.  Please join us for love of the hobby and get the ham radio word out.

Please contact Mike Wagner KK6OKU or Mike Foley K4MJF or REPLY to GROUP if you wish to volunteer.  Thank you, and have a great rest of the day.

Hey all,

FYI … George WB9TFR recently showed me a new external 3.2” display he got for his FT-818ND. Real nice colorful graphics and unit connects via the CAT connector on back.  So much easier now to see radio functions as compared to the original little built-in screen. Cool stuff.

(I’d probably get an ‘818 if I could sell my TS2000 and/or 811H amp. Nice rig for portable use: all-band HF-VHF-UHF, 5w out, CW-SSB-AM.)
