INVITATION AND REMINDER // TLARC JUNE 2021 GENERAL MEETING -- SATURDAY 26 JUN 21

Chuck Ferguson - N4CSF

TLARC Members and Guests,

Hello, everyone!  This is our invitation for you and your guests to attend our June face-to-face (F2F) meeting next Saturday afternoon at God's Cozy Acres.  We changed our normal monthly meeting schedule to coincide with TLARC's Field Day (FD) activities 26-27 Jun 21.  The specifics are as follows:

Date/Time:  Saturday, 26 Jun 21.  FD Setup - 8:00am EDT to 12:00 noon; Lunch - Immediately following FD setup; Meeting - 1:00pm EDT, before FD operations begin.  All available members are encouraged to be on deck to help with setup activities.

Location:  God's Cozy Acres, 2315 Big Sandy Rd, Philadelphia, TN  37846

Invitees:  TLARC members, partners/spouses, and guests

Attire:  All attendees are encouraged to wear their TLARC t-shirts, name tags, and comfortable work clothes.  COVID facemasks are OPTIONAL.

FD operations will commence at 2:00pm EDT, following our general business session.  Our hope is many TLARC members can remain onsite after the meeting to participate in and observe TLARC's FD station operations.  As discussed in previous meetings, we plan to operate voice, CW, and digital modes on the HF and possibly VHF/UHF bands.  Please take this valuable opportunity to learn more about and work modes/bands new to you.  There will be lots to learn that can enhance your Ham knowledge and experience as well as improve your emergency communications capabilities.

I intend to forward the draft minutes from our 19 May 21 monthly meeting for your review early next week.

Please join us for what will be a fun, informative, and productive Saturday.  Thanks again for all you do, and we look forward to seeing you on the 26th!

Hands Free Law in Ohio

Eric Ressler <kd8lhz@...>

Hello TLARC

I wanted to give you guys a heads up on a new bill making its way through the Ohio General Assembly

House Bill 283 will make Ohio a Hands Free state while driving. Ham radio operators are not exempt from this. If a ham is on the radio not responding to an emergency, he/she will be subject to a fine. If the ham is responding to an emergency, they are not subject to the fine

Please note that this will be a primary offense. You can be pulled over for talking on your radio.

I know that this is in Ohio, I wanted to share this with you all so be prepared later in the year.

The information I have received was from State Rep Cindy Abrams.

Any questions, please ask.

Take care and 73

We have an excellent blog detailing the efforts, including the fantastic videos of the actual deployment. Check it out at: https://sites.google.com/view/ramsat/home

Additionally, we are working to create an online dashboard to view current and historical telemetry with visual trending. Stay tuned for additional details.

Regretfully, I must say I’ve never knowingly eaten Benton’s bacon.  Toqua Sports Bar & Grill advises they don’t serve Benton’s, but their thick-cut is awfully tasty!  Here’s hoping Z Fish House does!

Re: JS8Call

WK9M

I've been using JS8 (the mode) and JS8CALL (the program) for some time now; made a contact over 2 hr recently with a guy in MI and have left/received mail myself.

I have to do an antenna tweaking tonight (last one I think) and should be able to do this with you tomorrow if you want to give it a try after dark--tonight is movie night.  Or Ralph KM4TUY has done this with me as well and should be able to help you during the day if he's around.  Just email one or both of us directly.

The two tests are:

1. See how Close i can receive a signal

and

2. Test the message saving of JS8Call

So, the first one is self explanatory, just wanting to see if i can receive a signal from in/around town. I got out in LA the other day, but i'm wanting to just see.

The second is i'm wanting to see if i left the radio and pc on, a message came through directed to me, if the message area of the program will know to save it separately, as if i was having a conversation, but without any input on my end.

So, if anyone would be willing to help, i would really appreciate it. You can just reply through this message and we can talk about any possible time and dates that would work for you.

Thanks Everyone
