Last Call for NAQP

Juan Lopez

I will be submitting team names this morning at 0900 EST. This your last chance to let us know if you want to be assigned to the team.

The way this works: you get assigned to the TLARC team, you operate as a single operator from.your station, you submit your score t the contest organizer and they will combine the scores by callsign pre-registered to the team. Eery QSO counts! Even if you only 1 qso or 100.

George (N2APB) plans to potentially host operators during the day at his QTH as a multi-single under the Club call if folks choose to operate from his shack.

Juan will be operating full-time  as a single operator assigned to a team to maximize QSO rate and score.

Last Call, your full callsigns please.

Roger Calendine

I am sorry, but try as I might to find any info on dues for membership renewal on the TLARC, Hamclubonline, or here, I do not know how much are the annual dues, nor where to send my check.  I am not able to generally make the meetings.
Please post this information somewhere, preferably on all three places.

Call for Secretary Nomination

Juan Lopez

Dear TLARC Members,

To date, I have not received any nominations for the 2019 TLAC Secretary positions for the upcoming special election.  Anyone that is considering the position should self nominate themself today. Do not wait to see if someone else steps up. TLARC requires a full staff to run efficiently. Please consider serving your club his year.

This will be preceded by a dinner at the Thai Bistro at 5:30. If you are interested in having dinner and have not already done so, I would appreciate an email so I can give the restaurant an accurate headcount for dinner.

The program for the evening hasn't been finalized yet, but as soon as it is, we will get another note out letting you know what the subject for the evening is.

Hope to see everybody at the meeting.

North American QSO Party this weekend ... join in with the KN4DUA team!

George N2APB

Hey all,
The North American CW QSO Party (NAQP/CW) is happening this coming weekend, and we have a real fun and unique opportunity to participate... It allows for club operation by multiple stations operating separately from different locations!  This means that we'll have one station going at Juan's AC6ZM home station, another going from George's N2APB home station, and perhaps at the same time by other club members.  All we have to is register "who will be where" in advance.

Here's the full poop ... http://www.ncjweb.com/NAQP-Rules.pdf.  But in summary ...
- CW only – send as slow or fast as you like…Great for 1st-time contest operators!
- 1 pm ET Saturday to 1 am ET Sunday
- Single ops can work up to 10 of the 12 hours
- Exchange: Name and State (e.g. GEO TN)
- NO RST – do not send RST !!!
- 100 W maximum output power, or 5 W for QRP
- Bands: 160, 80, 40, 20, 15, and 10 meters only
- QSOs: Work the same station on multiple bands.  Ask stations to QSY to other bands (this is fun…try to work ‘em on 6 bands!)

We think we're going to have George's station in operation at the start, at 1:00 on Saturday afternoon.
Maybe even some QRP Field Ops up on the Ft. Loudon Dam Overlook ... TLARC Field Ops again!!
Then we'll have Juan's station open in the evening on into the wee hour (1am).

So, let us know if you have any interest at all in helping support TLARC put KN4DUA on the map yet again.  You can cheer us on, you can take a turn at the CW paddles (or straight key), or you operate from your own home ... It couldn't be easier!

TLARC,

I’ve scheduled our after-holiday dinner at Classico Italian Restaurant for Saturday January 19, 2019, at 5:30 p.m.  They are located in beautiful downtown Tellico Village at 206 Village Square, Loudon.  At the traffic light on Hwy 444, turn into the business area of Tellico Village.  Classico is located behind the gas station.  Phone 865-657-6300.

Menu includes lasagna, spaghetti and meat balls, chicken alfredo, salad, garlic knots, pizza, and drinks.  You may bring your own beer/wine.

Cost, is $16 per person, plus tax and tip, for a total of $20.72.  You can either pay me or pay the restaurant the night of the dinner.

I told them I estimated 25 people.  Please RSVP to me by Sunday January 13, so that I can give the restaurant an exact number.  You will be responsible for paying for unused reservations.

Hi Joyce,

I thought I expressed at the last meeting that Karen and I wanted to attend the event, however it seems our reservations got lost in the shuffle.

Please add our name to the list. Looking forward to seeing everyone.

New Ham in Tellico Village

Brad (the Voice of the Village) Berger

Dear TLARC'ers,

There's a new ham in town. His name is Tony Walker (KN4PNS) and he received his Technicians license in October. Tony took a course in Knoxville and studied via the computer. He lives in the Toqua neighborhood of Tellico Village and is interested in meeting the group, attending meetings, and finding out more about ARES. I am bestowing my many years of hamness upon him. One of the best things is he is a member of the C.O.P. helping protect our county.

Say hello to Tony if you hear him on-the-air.

Club is operating the ARRL RTTY Round Up Contest this weekend!

George N2APB

Hi All,
The ARRL RTTY Round Up contest is this weekend!  Juan AC6ZM is again hosting us with his super station and antenna, and we'll be operating the club callsign (KN4DUA) from 6pm Saturday onward into the night (and on into Sunday).

RTTY RU information and rules rules are here ... http://www.arrl.org/rtty-roundup

Note that you can also run FT8 for this contest!

Interested?!
... Join us in helping to rack up a big score? (with some expert guidance!)
... Just look over our shoulders while we operate?
... Learn more about RTTY and FT8 digital modes?
... Or perhaps join us in the shack for good camaraderie?

Let us know if you can spare a couple of hours on Saturday evening or Sunday.  We'll be monitoring the club repeater as well for late comers and directions.

73, George N2APB & Juan AC6ZM
www.tlarc.org

PS:  If you'll be operating the contest from your home shack, you can also use the club callsign KN4DUA to add to our overall score.  Just let us know!   And if you've not used a RTTY program before, Digital Engine is super easy to get going ....http://n7yg.net/software/n7yg-digital-engine

Every day is a good day to send CW, but for 24 hours starting at 8pm on NY Eve is reserved for Straight Key Night.  Enjoy CW as it has been sent and enjoyed since the earliest days of Amateur Radio.

Join us to activate and operate the club station KN4DUA at George's QTH to "pound brass" they way they did in the old days.  The shack will be open and squirting RF into the ionosphere from 8-10pm this evening.  Feel free to drop by to watch or join in to make some QSOs for the club!

Field Day 2019

Hello TLARC members,

Something that should be brought up in the next meeting is Field Day 2019! It's never too early to start planning for field day, where we can set up, what needs to be brought and, of course, FOOD!!!

Last years Field Day was a success. Let's all work together to make the next one even better!
