I can help out with that if they have silver or gold content. I used to buy and sell gold and silver. This included government coins also.

Minor typo below; the club call is KN4DUA and not KN4DUI.  (So everyone doesn't have to email me back on that one, LOL).

This coming weekend is the CQWW 160m CW contest that a few others and myself have been planning for out at God's Cozy Acres for the last few months.  The gate is here and will be open while someone is there:
https://goo.gl/maps/1GrB2NW3rrCK1DSDA
35.689393°, -84.520015°

Some of us will be there the whole weekend; everyone is invited to come by for a little visit or stay overnight as you like.  The official start time is Friday at 5PM, and it ends Sunday at 5PM. Most of the activity is sundown to sunrise on 160m.  Typically we leave early Sunday morning unless someone really wants to operate during the day (very slow going) and in that case please come Saturday or let me know ahead of time that you'll be there during the day to operate Sunday.  Since this more of a casual contest we're not doing a sign-up sheet.  I typically bring some soup and canned food to microwave; but also snacks and drinks to share if someone is hungry.  The bathroom and shower in the small house will be open; be quiet if you can (in case someone is sleeping).

160m contests are typically slower paced being a single band and an even playing field as there are no 160m Yagi antennas.  We'll have a computer and radio decoder there as well.  You can use the computer to send CW, send with the paddles, or you can bring your own key/bug.  If you want a faster pace, calling CQ will occasionally test your pileup skills at night.  Juan's bringing an amplifier and I'll bring my TS-590SG.  If you want to use your own radio we can accommodate that as well if you give me a little notice.  (Radio needs to have a straight-key jack in back and your power cord w/ Powerpoles or bring your power supply).

If you can't make it and have a 160m antenna available, we'll either be using Juan's call or my call like we have in the past if you're able to make a QSO.  Both the club call (KN4DUI) and Juan's call (AC6ZM) take the same amount of time to send; mine is a little shorter.  If you want to try your call enter it here at this link below in the box and hit 'Measure' below that box. Allan (K1AT) is the lucky one in the club at only 2.6 seconds to send (at 20wpm). :)

For those of you who may not be aware, the Orlando Hamcation will be a virtual event this year, just as many other large gatherings. Hamcation, I believe is the 2nd largest ham convention, only behind Dayton. From what I can see, it is free to take in the presentations, though as an option one can purchase prize drawing tickets. See the URL for more information.

Music throughout the house using FM

George N2APB

Hey TLARC’ers-

While up in PA over the long ‘holidays’, I had plenty of time to think on a favorite topic:  Getting music (or my ham radio speakers) to play easily throughout the house wherever I might be … radio room, basement workshop, garage woodshop, rear patio, et al.

In a nutshell (and looking at my diagram below), the solution I came up with involves connecting the audio output of my favorite internet radio (Grace Digital) to an inexpensive little 200mW FM transmitter which in turn sends the music to a “FM box” that plays it anywhere in the house.  Then by placing one of these inexpensive FM receiver boxes in any room I wish, I can listen to fairly good quality music play near-effortlessly.

Further making this a seamless solution, my iPhone remotely controls the Grace Digital internet radio from anywhere in the house.  I can select any of the ‘apps’ that reside on the internet radio and play SiriusXM, iHeart, Pandora, Spotify, etc, or even play the MP3 music I have on the 5GB thumb drive plugged into the back of the Grace.  Nice, eh?  Icing on the cake is that I can also play music directly from the iPhone to any FM box using Bluetooth wireless connection, if desired.  Great for when we entertain on the patio and a guest wants to play his/her own music for us all.

The enabler for this solution came about when I came across the TAMPROAD 20W portable Bluetooth & FM stereo speaker.  I immediately bought a couple of these nifty little boxes and tried it all out together yesterday upon returning home to Tennessee this weekend … works great!

Just thought some of you TLARC members might also enjoy building your own “Whole House Music” system.  Links for this and the other two components are provided below.

PS:  BTW, the input to the FM transmitter could easily be your ham station receiver.

PPS:  I checked with the TLARC listmaster and this qualifies as a ham-related topic.

Extra Class

Hi all.....

I found this on Fakebook and thought I'd share it with the group..... Maybe somebody would benefit from this.....

There is a free Extra Class license class starting up that is completely online and 100% free. The instructor, Rol Anders, is the Chairman of the Question Pool Committee that creates the license exams. Everyone who takes his class says he's a great instructor.

The class will be taught via Zoom. It will run 11 weeks, starting Thursday, Jan. 28, 2021. Classes are 6:30-9:30pm Eastern Time.

If you'd like to sign up, please email Rol Anders, K3RA, at roland.anders@....

This is not an entry-level class. It is intended primarily for those who already have their General Class license. However, if you do not yet have your General Class license, Rol tells me that you are still welcome to participate as long as you are at least studying for the General Class license and are "somewhat experienced in technology."
