Build Project for TLARC Meeting

Brad (the Voice of the Village) Berger

Dear TLARCers,

Instead of building a clock, let's build some of these. We can sell a bunch of them and at the same time, do the community a service.

Some techies are more fun, and more talented, than others.

There will be no hospital net this coming Friday to allow our team members to be with their families over the holiday season.  The next net will be January 25, 2019.

I want to thank all of the hospital team members for making the net a success for 2018.  We have increased our average check-ins to 15 or more hospitals per net.  Most of our hospitals and teams are digital capable now also.

If interested, please see information below regarding an upcoming General Licence class for Amateur Radio Operations.

METERS is conducting a General class on Jan 12 and Jan 19.

The General Class license review course is January 12 and 19, beginning at 8:00 AM each day at the Knoxville County EOC, 605 Bernard Ave., Knoxville, TN. We plan to have testing at the end of the second day. This class is open to anyone who wishes to upgrade from Tech.

Interested persons should contact METERS Secretary, Cathi Cogle, K4TMW, at cathiwim@... or Nick Cook, W3VN, GadgetGuyTN@....

We will be using the book put out by Ham Radio Schools. (https://hamradioschool.com/ham-radio-study-guide-hamradioschool-com/) It may be ordered online, but copies are available at a discounted price of $20 from Nick Cook, W3VN. Students are expected to read the book prior to coming to the review.

NOTE: This book and the review are more than just a look at the answers to the question pool. It is intended that students will not only pass their tests afterwards, but gain practical knowledge that will help them as they begin their exploration of the HF bands!

Please get the word out to those in your area. Thanks!

Field Day 2019

Hello TLARC members,

Something that should be brought up in the next meeting is Field Day 2019! It's never too early to start planning for field day, where we can set up, what needs to be brought and, of course, FOOD!!!

Last years Field Day was a success. Let's all work together to make the next one even better!

Every day is a good day to send CW, but for 24 hours starting at 8pm on NY Eve is reserved for Straight Key Night.  Enjoy CW as it has been sent and enjoyed since the earliest days of Amateur Radio.

Join us to activate and operate the club station KN4DUA at George's QTH to "pound brass" they way they did in the old days.  The shack will be open and squirting RF into the ionosphere from 8-10pm this evening.  Feel free to drop by to watch or join in to make some QSOs for the club!

Club is operating the ARRL RTTY Round Up Contest this weekend!

George N2APB

Hi All,
The ARRL RTTY Round Up contest is this weekend!  Juan AC6ZM is again hosting us with his super station and antenna, and we'll be operating the club callsign (KN4DUA) from 6pm Saturday onward into the night (and on into Sunday).

RTTY RU information and rules rules are here ... http://www.arrl.org/rtty-roundup

Note that you can also run FT8 for this contest!

Interested?!
... Join us in helping to rack up a big score? (with some expert guidance!)
... Just look over our shoulders while we operate?
... Learn more about RTTY and FT8 digital modes?
... Or perhaps join us in the shack for good camaraderie?

Let us know if you can spare a couple of hours on Saturday evening or Sunday.  We'll be monitoring the club repeater as well for late comers and directions.

73, George N2APB & Juan AC6ZM
www.tlarc.org

PS:  If you'll be operating the contest from your home shack, you can also use the club callsign KN4DUA to add to our overall score.  Just let us know!   And if you've not used a RTTY program before, Digital Engine is super easy to get going ....http://n7yg.net/software/n7yg-digital-engine

New Ham in Tellico Village

Brad (the Voice of the Village) Berger

Dear TLARC'ers,

There's a new ham in town. His name is Tony Walker (KN4PNS) and he received his Technicians license in October. Tony took a course in Knoxville and studied via the computer. He lives in the Toqua neighborhood of Tellico Village and is interested in meeting the group, attending meetings, and finding out more about ARES. I am bestowing my many years of hamness upon him. One of the best things is he is a member of the C.O.P. helping protect our county.

Say hello to Tony if you hear him on-the-air.
