The restrictions in Italy affect railway traffic with Switzerland:

SSIF interrupted international traffic, thus FART trains end in Camedo.

RhB informs passengers that they might be sent back by the Police in Tirano.

SBB and BLS still run all trains but patronage has dropped to about 10%. Persons living in Italy and working in Switzerland are officially allowed to cross the border. Persons wanting to return home would probably be allowed to pass, most other persons not.

Freight traffic volume is drastically reduced.

Within Switzerland there are no travelling restrictions, but elderly people are advised to avoid unnecessary travels.

Any event with more than 1000 persons is prohibited. Many other events have been cancelled too.

People are advised to work at home if possible. For the federal administration it is not possible, that too many persons work at home, because VPN capacity is insufficient... (well done!)

Patronage in public transport has dropped visibly but not drastically.

Public transport companies are officially advised to maintain the offer as far as possible (staff availability) and reasonable (demand).

On its website, RhB informs passengers that "tourists must remain at the station of Tirano", not that they might be sent back.

There are still two international services from Domodossola ending at Camedo, operated by SSIF for frontalieri:
- Treno 119 fino a Camedo con trasbordo per Locarno in partenza da Domodossola alle 5.30
- Treno 75 fino a Camedo con trasbordo per Locarno (su treno 181) con partenza da Domodossola alle ore 16.25
- Treno 120 con partenza da Camedo verso Domodossola alle ore 07.24
- Treno 80 con partenza da Camedo verso Domodossola alle ore 18.24 (con trasbordo con il treno delle ore 17.47 proveniente da Locarno)

This sounds very drastic, did you perhaps mean by 10% rather than to 10%?

It’s a bit implicit:

Aufgrund einer Verordnung der italienischen Behörden dürfen Freizeitreisende in Tirano derzeit nicht einreisen. Touristen müssen im Bahnhof Tirano verbleiben. Wir empfehlen Freizeitreisenden, bereits in Poschiavo, Le Prese, Brusio oder Campocologno auszusteigen.
..dürfen Freizeitreisende in Tirano derzeit nicht einreisen.. Tourists cannot enter Italy. So yes you can stay at the station, no you cannot enter Italy. In essence, that means you will be send back by authorities.

Greetings,
Martijn

It is drastic and I can very well distinguish between "to 10%" and "by 10%". SBB said that patronage within Switzerland has dropped by 10%, to Italy by 90% and to France by 60%. That was yesterday (Tuesday).

Meanwhile some international trains have been cancelled. In Ticino some schools will remain closed from tomorrow Thursday on.

More restrictions might come on.

You can also add TPC/BVB between Villars and Col de Bretaye to the list.

Starting Thursday passenger timetables will be reduced by almost 50%. Hourly services should be maintained. Night traffic on weekends will be stopped. Shops not serving daily needs will be closed until mid-April. Restaurants are closed as well. Only persons living in Switzerland or coming in a professional purpose will be allowed to pass the border.

It's about the same in all surrounding countries.

DFB (Furka Bergstrecke) have announced they will not run until at least 03.07.2020 (was to be 13.06)

As a result of reduced equipment requirements all Re 4/4 II workings on the Zürich-Brugg-Basel route have been replaced by either 460 pushpull or ICN units

Martin Baumann

ALL Passenger Re 4/4 II are now out of service except two locos which are being used to transfer empty coaches between Zürich and Geneva or Olten

So just what level of service is being offered by SBB and the  RhB presently? I know Bernina trains terminate at Campocologno.

An SBB man said that the offer was reduced by 25% and patronage is reduced by 80%.

Online timetables show which trains are running.

RhB kept all hourly trains but cancelled additional trains like the Landquart - St. Moritz trains.

MGB kept hourly Visp - Zermatt and Visp - Andermatt trains but cancelled the Zermatt - Fiesch trains.

You can easily check the Albula (still regular hourly Alvra and connections in the Davos platform), plus freight, by looking at the Filisur webcam (internet search 'webcam Filisur' will get it up straight away)
