[ERG] SBB krokodil special

Keith Hookham

And as a special treat due to the kroks not having the correct signalling equipment apparently between Bodio & Bellinzona we were all treated to a normal passenger RE 4/4 11192 on the front. No RE6/6 for us. D’oh.

Cheers Keith.

Expensive Swiss Sugar

Guerbetaler

I found interesting info in a local newspaper. For 2019 the sugar harvest in Switzerland brought 1.6 million tonnes, which is more than in the years before. This is astonishing as sugar beet production in Switzerland is more expensive than in our neighbouring countries. But this sugar can be sold. One quarter of the production is bought by Red Bull in Widnau. About every second can of Red Bull contains Swiss sugar. ... and has left Switzerland by rail.

Much of the sugar beet harvest is still transported by rail to Frauenfeld and Aarberg, all by private railway undertakings. But they suffer from the same problem as SBB and do not always have enough drivers. This is the reason why more than wanted is transported by road.

Bellinzona is a strong competitor of Landquart.

Bellinzona does the refurbishment of MGB HGe 4/4 II 106, planned to return some time in 2020.

Landquart does a similar work at Ge 4/4 III 653 ex-MOB. So why should they send a Ge 4/4 III to Bellinzona? Not a very logical thought...

Since I've been linked to the area by family for 59 years I have had a play with some cross-Geneva itineraries that would have taken yonks in the past, for example north suburbs (eg UN, WHO HQ) to La Roche sur Foron (Haute Savoie). TPG bus for Leman Express Train - journey just over 1 hour!

On 13.10 Ge 4/4 III 649 was sitting on a Frederici low-bed truck at Landquart. Does anyone know where it was headed?
Bellinzona?

The locomotive has the new Rhine bridge picture and, among others, a Jörimann Stahlbau inscription. This company had a visitor's day and wanted to present the locomotive on its site in Walenstadt. Unfortunately the trailer sent to transport the locomotive was not strong enough to carry it. So it was unloaded without having travelled. NB. The weight of the locomotive was known!

Somewhat strange pronouncement. These trains use to run and they are more reliable than the Andermatt through services!

2) After 14 Oct and AFAIK until December six trains in each direction
are replaced by buses between Brig and Fiesch. This is due to not having
enough drivers available.
Presumably this is the local EMUs rather than the through Andermatt services. If so they are a comparitively recent innovation and theynever used to run anyway so perhaps the obvious trains to cull

3111 entered passenger service on Thursday last week (10.10) Plastic - yeah!
Sadly on the same day my favourite Ge4/4II 628 was scrapped :-(
