For a group with well over a hundred members
interested in rosters this is an awfully quiet list. Is
anyone working on anything right now?
I have finally started in earnest on my all
time Southern Ry roster set. I am working on the East
Tennessee Virginia & Georgia lineage right now. As with
any old rosters there are always voids in information,
particularly for the roads that went through the war. I have
a pretty good accounting of the East Tennessee &
Virginia and the East Tennessee & Georgia but with the
formation of the East Tennessee Virginia & Georgia
things get tough. I have an ETV&G 7/1870 annual report
which was the first one I believe with a list of 33 locos

Has anyone seen any documentation on the early
ETV&G locos? The later ones are easier to track as many
were new.  One of the real mysteries
is a Portland loco on the ET&G. Portland only built a
handful for southern roads and I can account for most of
them. One says sold to the Lexington & Danville but the
L&D records don't show it. One Portland builders
list I have which was supposedly copied from the original
files up in Maine has a note for the L&D loco which says
sold to ET&G & named Kentucky. This is CN #55. On
the ET&G roster the name is John P King a noted Ga
citizen. The specs in the builders list are the same as what
the annual reports show so this is probably the same loco
later renamed.  Anyone have any ideas?
Surely someone is working on some rosters. I
know Bob Lehmuth and Doug Cummings are working on builders
lists but how about anyone else. We all have a common
interest so how about starting some new projects and maybe

many of us still with an interest. Why not put our mutual

Hi
Allen,I'm
still working on the BU-C RR.   Still looking for the
elusive first locos purchased/leased/rented prior to 1905.
Also looking for early  electric info for the same line.
They had some passenger cars, and freight, but I haven't
found any records for their purchases.Robert Grady

I have started a newsgroup called
LocomotiveWorld for just that purpose, to exchange data and
ask questions. But it need members to function properly. It
is a googlegroups group.     Hi All,
For a group with well over a hundred members
interested in rosters this is an awfully quiet list. Is
anyone working on anything right now?
I have finally started in earnest on my all
time Southern Ry roster set. I am working on the East
Tennessee Virginia & Georgia lineage right now. As with
any old rosters there are always voids in information,
particularly for the roads that went through the war. I have
a pretty good accounting of the East Tennessee &
Virginia and the East Tennessee & Georgia but with the
formation of the East Tennessee Virginia & Georgia
things get tough. I have an ETV&G 7/1870 annual report
which was the first one I believe with a list of 33 locos
but only the road numbers, builders, build date and cyl/drvr
specs and no real way to know which predecessor loco got
which number. The report says 39 locos were brought in and 6
had already been dropped. I can figure out a lot of the
locos by builder and specs but not many of the others. The
ones that were dropped are a real mystery.
We all have a common
interest so how about starting some new projects and maybe
getting others involved? This data is vanishing along with
many of us still with an interest. Why not put our mutual
resources to work?  Allen
