That south bend has the better collet closer & the upgraded reverse tumbler , a micrometer carriage stop . I bet the spindle bearings for that sensitive drill press could set fella back a couple- 300.00 bucks . I don't think this is teh same Hamilton mentioned in the drill press add , but check out this lathe that a different Hamilton made . http://www.lathes.co.uk/hamiltonmaryland/ animal On 11/12/2022 7:01 PM, Payson wrote:
Oh yah. Look at this Muehlmatt sensitive drill press. $200 aint bad, but the suggestion is to restore it as a historic item. A lot of work and you don't know if the shaft is true... |

Another thing I forgot to mention . I have a bud that has been a machinist since dirt was new . He showed me a quick lesson on scraping / flaking when I had his 9A tool room lathe apart . From what he showed me anyone with a good scraper can make a bed look like the one in the add . The % of those that can do it correctly is a whole nother story . animal On 11/12/2022 6:15 PM, Rick wrote:
That price seems outrageous to me. This is in the Northeast, usually plenty of lathes around here at reasonable prices. I paid $450 for a SB9A 5 minutes from my house in 2015, and it is a 4’ bed and as nice as this one. Mine came with the collets, steady, follower, taper attachment, thread dial, and more. |

https://boston.craigslist.org/gbs/tls/7547200470.html and this for $2,500. https://boston.craigslist.org/nos/tls/7544714421.html Wood lathes seem to be more reasonably priced now. Payson. |

Yeppers . I paid $250.00 for my 9A 3 1/2 ' bed but only one chuck & a handfull of armstrong tool holders . In the north Sierras of Calif .The guy wanted $ 750.00 for it a year earlier , but the day I called was the day after he accepted a bid on his ranch . I told him I wanted the Craftsman bench grinder & a 109 lathe & he had to help me load it . The guy was a dick so I didn't feel sorry for him a week later when the buyer withdrew his bid . I finally managed to get a collet drawbar & necessary hardware for it at a real fair price . Anyone have any 3C collets that are burning a hole in their shelf ? I had a bud that gave me a pair of virtually un-used
telescopic steady & follower rest for a Heavy 10 . I was able
to trade those for the ones for my 9A over on the Practical
Machinist forum. animal On 11/12/2022 6:15 PM, Rick wrote:

Whats worse is he will probably get it . People see flakes & pull out their check books . So it has a collet set & 2 chucks . I don't see the reversing switch & it's only 16" between centers . Payson are prices like this alot in that area ? animal On 11/12/2022 5:41 PM, Andrei wrote:

These prices are getting out of hand. You can get a brand new lathe at that price
