Can some one tell me what this part is?

John Gallo

Hi,

This part came with a 10L that I recently purchased. The seller seemed to think it had some thing to do with tailstock storage, but I still can't figure it out. Any ideas? Thanks, John.

Mark R. Jonkman

It’s for storing the carriage stop

Thanks for the reply Mark. Can you explain to me where it mounts on my 10L? I've been looking around, but I can't see where it goes. Thanks, John.

It is an adaptor for when you are working close to the headstock, like when using collets.

It fits at headstock end of bed and is an accessory mount for micrometer stop and other things. Someone please chime in with the installation of accessories in the parts manual, I seam to have misplaced mine

I’ve never seen it attached but based on the doc Ted references it looks like you have to drill and tap holes into bed if you wish to use it.

Got it. Thanks for the help I really appreciate it, John.

I did not think SB made a 10 L gap bed lathe. But it looks a little like a piece to fill in the gap on a bed.

Thanks, Ted. That's a helpful sheet for me as I have one of those micrometer carriage stops.

Cheers

that holds the micrometer carriage stop - if you look at the front of the headstock about the same height as the ways you will see two threaded holes - that is where this bolts onto and it holds the micrometer stop horz in fron tof the headstock - fred
