Hello, The foil is like thin shim stock, less than 0.010" thick, cut to the bottom and edge shapes that contact the pocket. Brass can be used too. Everything should be cleaned like for any other type

Howdy, Those appear to be braze-in inserts. A slot is cut in a steel bar and the insert is brazed in generally using bronze foil, then it is sharpened with silicon carbide and diamond grinding wheels.

The new Heavy Ten is still cheaper than the last dinosaur SB lathe offered by LeBlond Makino at $15K, which no one was buying anyway. Belt drive metal lathes are mostly a thing of the past.

Change gears PA and DP
Pardon me, I had an epiphany that the ratio should be one to one when line milling because no form generation is taking place. OK

Hello, Nope, it won't be one to one, more like 0.69 to one, that's where the tables come in. Span over teeth, may be three for a 22 tooth gear, using a disc mic or caliper is a good way to double chec

Howdy, The ratio needed is 32/52 or, simplified, 8/13 and its other multiples 16/26, 24/39; hence, a gear purchase looms in the future. Enjoy, OK

Don´t fret there, Mr Bickers, he´s just making a plain cutter, not a hob, but for some reason wants sharp roots to make it weaker.
