I did mine with my milwaukie impact driver. Put a 3/8" adapter on there and then the usual wide screwdriver bit from sears and that took them out nice and easy. I had tried the whack it with a hammer

Agreed. No bearing surface needed. On my 16" there is even a pin that locates the headstock so you could not slide it even if you wanted to. If you did move it then it would affect gear alignment. Dan

Brake Caliper Turning ?
I haven't turned a rotor in a long time but the old bear brake lathes were not what we would consider precision instruments. If you can swing it then your lathe will be more than capable of turning it

I used an electric impact hammer and gently backed the screws out with a good fitting bit. You can also use the spring loaded kind that you hit with a hammer but I think the electric one is better and
